Tail between legs now.

Quite a surprising situation, though. I've always assumed that if I happened to mix up numbers on a transfer the bank would reconcile it. I think a lot of people will be checking sort codes and accounts much more carefully!

Nonsense! Never turn your back on wine. Think of all the great literature that would never have been written if not for wine. I refuse to be responsible for this.

Another medication being looked into for possible raised levels of NDMA this time Metformin.

I think one reason I am sleepy all the time, I have been keeping a note pad and pen next to the bed, and keeping track of when I wake up, well when I wake up enough to grab the pen and notepad, but over the last week, I wake up on average 5-7 times per night, I think while I may on paper get 8 hours sleep going to bed at midnight and waking at 8am, but I don't think I am actually getting that much sleep as I wake up so much, I have a hard time staying asleep, every little noise wakes me up it seems.

Why are both children being deported to the US? Only one is a US Citizen. The oldest is not. He was born in Bangladesh, not the US, so not a US Citizen. In reality, once at the border, the oldest child will be taken aside and into custody and held by US immigration.

Where is the biological father of these two children?

Article says both children hold US Citizenship.

"But their application, and an appeal, were rejected, largely because the adjudicators felt the family could safely move to the United States, where Shuruvi and Redwan were citizens and Nipa had a green card."

1. Does he stand a good chance of getting his money back?
2. Could the wrong recipient face any legal issues if he continues to keep the cash?
3. Could the bank be liable for any costs for not cross checking account name against bank account number or will bank no-fault be hidden within small print?
Not a small amount to be concerned about at his age.

I didn't read that report but I saw it in the Guardian. Cost him about £46k in legal fees to get it back and the bank agreed to refund the legal fees - after Guardian intervention.

UK banks apparently don't check the name against the number but they agreed to do so in future and that future has been delayed from this year to next year.

I always believed that receiving money that you were clearly not due - and then spending it - was theft, or some other criminal offence. ie one that wouldn't require civil action to recover it.

Naively I would have expected the bank to take it back presumably informing the other party and that in the event the other party says 'no' like this one apparently did, to then pass the details on to the police. I'd then expect a charge of theft or whatever if not refunding the money.

Paging AC...

Kind of surprised its not considered theft or that police were not involved. Dunno what the law is in the UK.

Back in September a US bank made an error and deposited 120,000 into the wrong account, the bank eventually realized the mistake however, only problem the couple spent most of the money, so put them into a 107,000 over-draft. The couple started to ignore the bank, and bank must have contacted police who arrested them and charged with felony theft.

This is the mystery though. The customer who should have had the money had to hire legal representation to get the bank to freeze the account of the person who got the deposit and then further legal costs were needed to get the deposit back. £46k in all I think were the fees.

It sounded like the police had zero involvement. No charges at all.

Without the doggedness of the customer, he'd have lost his inheritance and the other guy would have gained it.

I've just read the Guardian report again -

No one is legally entitled to keep money that has been wrongfully credited to their account. But compelling them to return the money, particularly if it is spent, is another matter. Barclays, in common with other banks, will not even provide the name of the person who has received the cash, unless it is instructed by a court.

So yes, it sounds like it's a civil matter rather than a criminal one. Which of course means you have to take legal action yourself. Very wrong, it's the same as stealing/robbery and should be a criminal offence.

This really sucks for this couple. Went to Thailand and a month into their trip, the man has a bad headache goes to hospital, turns out its a cancerous tumor, they file claim with their travel insurance which is denied due to pre-existing condition, turns out he went to a hospital in Canada with the "flu" and had a headache which was very likely the tumor, but they had no idea at that time it was a tumor but its enough for insurance to declare it pre-existing.

Sounds like he has a fairly limited window to fly back to Canada safely. Air Ambulance was quoted as $265,000.

'Funny', but after ctv news contacted the insurance company, the man's wife got a phone call from them saying that although their claim was 'still under review', they're going to do a medical evac for the couple anyway. Any bloody wonder people hate insurance companies. BTW, I got that info from the man's wife, she's posted it on his Go Fund Me page (link is in the article)

True down here in NZ also.
Garage sales were a new concept to us when we arrived here but we have now helped out with a few and the haggling over a $ item is astounding.
We actually have some stuff himself wants to sell but I am putting it off as I think I would have little patience with haggling thing.

Being able to get into the media certainly does seem to help companies do the right thing, also helps get go fund me going... If only everyone had access to the media for help, but media of course picks and chooses so not like its even a viable option for most.

Good they are at least going to get the man home, at least once back home their healthcare will be covered by their provincial plan.

Ah that's why then, they're from a time when things were built to last. I know that sounds very 'in my day..' but in my experience it's true!

ps I agree about the title, probably best for a book though. Fourteen Miracles would be a hell of a long movie.

I'll put my hand up to not knowing where Prince George was, but that's to be expected  I just had a quick Google, I wouldn't knock back an all expenses paid trip to there (or anywhere!). The reactions from the locals were funny though.

I think having a hotel there called The Prestige Treasure Cove Hotel is funny. Maybe they couldn't afford to give away a stay at Chateau Lake Louise. My only memory of Prince George is passing through on holidays with my parents when I was maybe 13 or 14 and stopping for a picnic lunch beside a bridge (any place with a picnic table was fair game). I didn't catch any fish in the river, which was wide, fast, and full of grey rocks. That's it, one picture.

Not yet. The developer we rent from sent a repair tech, but the part he needs they don't have in stock so it's been ordered, upside the developer is discounting January rent $100 to cover the costs of having to pay to do laundry which is fair in my view so its not the end of the world, and it wont cost us $100 to do laundry..

I've never been, but the report was amusing with the locals, I can't say if the city is good, bad or eh, but it's probably in between eh and bad, I can't say it's top of the list of places I would pay to go, but would go on a free trip no issues, did once look into moving there, rent was cheaper but quality of rentals was rather poor.
