Don't knock it. It's a short perfectly understandable phrase that gets the message across and keeps the Brexit argument where he wants it. It reminds people that, well that Brexit headache, rightly or wrongly he'll put an end to it. And it's this message that'll steal votes from Labour.

It's a lie, of course. At the earliest, he'll get Brexit done in 2021.

Lies can be very effective. And Boris is the Grand Master (this side of the Atlantic).

It doesn't matter what you think it means, or for that matter what it actually means.
He'll point to having ended the A50 phase and the endless parliamentary squabbling as what he meant.
Two weeks to go.

Yes, of course. But lies are only effective if the audience consents. If the audience, and their interviewer keeps pointing out that he's full of shit, then eventually he'll have to take a different approach.

I see your point, but Boris can always highlight the appalling behaviour of MPs in the Commons that forms the background to the phrase and this, unlike less tangible arguments, can easily be understood by everyone.

Not by me. I'm not aware of any appalling behaviour.

Party affiliation is still important but it's been eroded by Brexit and there'll be significant desertion from the norm, especially with Labour who've adopted a 'don't care' policy.
For those who still 'don't know' the leader personality will be the deciding factor.
Sure there are those who watch the news and follow the debates but these people have already made up their minds and watch debates to cheer or boo.
Corbyn would probably make a good PM but he's as attractive as a rock and Diane Abbott, well she's as helpful as a pile of poo.
Can't argue with your points here.
I just wonder why the Brexit Party isn't higher in the polls ?
If one is a Brexiteer, if one wants to be sure it happens, they are the party, aren't they ?
With Jonhnson one can't be sure of anything,
(Do or Die promises to lay in front of Heathrow diggers and / or dying in the ditch, not necessarily at the same time.... He's still there )

I strongly suspect that once Johnson made it clear that Brexit with a deal was being pushed then support for the one-man one-policy Brexit Party started to weaken. It also became obvious that they would split the pro Brexit vote and I expect their support to weaken still further at the polls.

Really? You haven't seen all the comparisons made between the surprise voting of Trump as POTUS and the surprise referendum decision for Brexit?

And you've not noticed how Boris has been at the forefront of Brexit for the last few months or how he's been as exposed for lying almost as often as Trump? Or losing votes and court actions?

You've not seen Trump cosying up to Boris and saying what a great PM he'd be?

Where have you been living that you don't see it as a completely appropriate reference?

Do I detect just a little anti-Boris feeling creeping in under the skin...?
And do I perceive just a little denigration of our hero by comparing him with the Horned One...?
And am I discerning just a little questioning of my perception of reality...?
Shame on you.

OK, yes, makes sense. Apart from Brexit BP doesn't have much to offer even though they tried with their ... was it called ''contract'' instead of manifesto ?
Having said that, the Tory manifesto doesn't has much body to it neither but I assume that's never really a discussion point.
Getting Brexit done seems to be the message, even though that will probably take years (which is never mentionned neither).
