Tried to improve the ice problem on the drive the other day. Some salt good to down to -35 and used an ice-breaker.

Now I keep finding pains in my forearms.

If you have underground heated parking they do Windchill doesn't affect the vehicle.
The only effect wind chill has on inanimate objects, such as car radiators and water pipes, is to more quickly cool the object to cool to the current air temperature. Object will NOT cool below the actual air temperature.
It will also depend on condition of battery, how old is it etc. My car was left out for 9 hours in minus 30 to 40 temps yesterday and has no block heater as the manufacturer claims it doesn't need one and it started ok and its a nearly 4 year old battery. Leather seats become very hard though.

Do you know much about remote starters? I don't have one, but I know lots of people who do and they like to let their vehicle idle on their driveway for 10-15 minutes. Besides having a nice warm interior, is there any benefit in letting the engine warm up for that length of time?

I had been wondering about this regarding two things.

Salt. Effective down to -15. Does this mean that at -10 but with windchill of -17 that it would still work? Coz I don't think it does. We also have a couple of packs of something else effective to -35 but it's barely effective with a feels like around -20. Slight pitting at best.

Heat Pumps - good down to -20. Who knows? Sometimes ours works at colder than -20 and other times not around zero. Two different systems - previous one and current one.

My hood latch is frozen so I can't get at the battery to boost it, ha ha. I did all the banging and prying stuff but it usually takes simultaneous effort at the hood and on the release to spring, so I'm resigned to walk to the bank and back and then stay put for the rest of the aft unless my friend gets his truck running and comes over. I get 4 service calls with my CAA gold card but won't use one for this; rather save them for real emergencies. I've had a duck in the main fridge for a couple of days so will take that out to finish thawing and so will have a nice project for later.
