Oh, it was life expectancy I was guessing at. Each winter it seems less worth the trouble to carry on.

I expect I'll move physically whenever they stop paying me to be here, assuming continued survival. No idea when that might be.

Well, the winters must be much harder in the back of beyond than in central Toronto where you used to live? Or do you secretly enjoy all that snow tractoring?

Very much so.

Not at all. Mowing is ok but that's a warm thing.

Another way to deal with it: This guy just ignored the snow and stayed inside.

Hmm, now there's an idea

They say 'a recluse' but with Skype etc it's a totally feasible lifestyle. Stock up on food and ride the winter out. I suppose the only hard part would be lack of fresh veggies and eggs, though that could be sorted with a 'basement farm'.

Someone said he didn't even have a phone so likely no skype or internet. Presumably has debits set up for bills.

But it could be done if there's no emergency. Although winter may last 5 months with the first snowfalls often melting away, if you didn't clear any of it you might only be literally snowed in for a couple of months.

It's over

We had a dusting before I went to bed and when I got up this morning not only had that new snow gone, a lot of the existing stuff had melted. The street was all wet and so were the driveways whereas yesterday they were snowy and icy.

There were puddles. Actual puddles.

We have sunshine and plus temperatures for the rest of the week including a couple of 10s.

I declare winter to be over.

It does make sense given it started early.

Perhaps another snow day for Vancouver tomorrow!

Here in Kamloops it has almost thawed out. All that is left are pot holes and loose gravel until the street sweepers come.

Ours too. It's always wanting to go out but more so today.

He tries to escape every time we open the door, front or back. I feel like a shady character when opening the door to someone, not fully opening it, looking over my shoulder..."who wants to know...he doesn't live here anymore..."

Windy here, snowing, little visibility due to blowing snow. Yesterday the snow in the driveway was too wet to blow so I shifted lots of it with the bucket and left the last ridges to melt. They didn't so driving is a bouncy experience, "like Butlins" said the passenger. On the way to the barn the blowing snow cleared and there was an animal in the middle of the road. A fox, very red against the white.

Some new snow, some melting, today. We're back at the point that some roads are impassable because the surface is clingy, like wet clay, I was only able to keep going this afternoon by aiming for the still frozen bits. It's a bugger for the car as all the moving parts get clogged with the sludge and you get wheel wobble and such. Still, it was -4, that's naked frolicking weather in Canada.
