Sylvia Gung, right. Just looked it up. She sounds like a freak. Surprised that she had enough support to get onto the candidate list. She's obviously completely out of touch with the citizenry, so I don't know why she thinks she can go for mayor. Unless she has a very very cynical sense of humour.

oh, well, she might not be completely out of touch. The other thing that's going on is the gay serum rumour that is associated with Burnaby First, a party that is affiliated with a very right wing christian group called Burnaby Parents' voice. The gay serum thing is the belief that the burnaby school board wants to turn kids gay or trans or something.

New (provincial) government of only a few weeks embarrassed following leak of an email that suggests road work contracts will be available to friends and supporters.
The writer is naturally more angry at the leak than anything else and he's surprised at the fuss generated as such practices, he says, are normal.
He's probably right. I recall a campaign manager being given the CEO position of the liquor department (or something similar) in a previous election and reading it was standard practice each time.
And I have to go through the process of applying for Citizenship so I can vote and endorse this stuff? No thanks.

It's like senate appointments only on a smaller scale. Montreal and Mexico come to mind.
Directorship of a provincial service and becoming a citizenship judge are 2 rewards I know of in Sk for years of service campaigning. That was from the Devine gov.

Not exactly local or recent, but I thought this was appropriate for this forum:
Englishman James O'Malley compiles the ultimate Canadian vacation video, again | CTV News
Hilarious video by a Brit featuring Canada's(mostly NB) err, 'hidden marvels'. Abandon your idea to see places like Niagara Falls, Banff Hot Springs, Edmonton Mall, folks. There are faaaaaar more exciting things to do like seeing World's Biggest Potato and buying a bat at Canadian tire.
