The Weimar Republic preceded the Nazis no? It was during the time of the Great Depression, Hyperinflation.. the economic turmoil that helped the Nazis gain the popularity it did.

Presumably a reference to a belief (or possibly hope since obviously everyone in London in particular and England generally is just a thief basically) that the London economy is due to implode in the near future. In which case it is curious that the SNP wish to share the currency of such a bunch of rogues.

I know the history of the Weimar Republic (one of the perks of being married to an historian), but I was puzzled by the reference. We don't actually have a depression, or hyperinflation in the UK at the current time, so how can we have the 'smell' of Weimar?

It was just an odd thing to say, and I wondered why he said it.
