Maybe it's not the national govt. salaries that are the biggest issue..

The largest remuneration package in Scotland was received by Linda Hardie, executive director of South Lanarkshire Council who received £543,538.

Glasgow, home to some of Scotland's poorest residents, also has the highest number of employees with packages worth more than £100,000: some 27 workers there are on six figures.

John Sharkey, chief Executive of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, a company almost entirely owned by Glasgow City Council, received £314,553. This included a bonus for having a tough year.

Orkney, with its tiny population of 20,000, managed to pay one official £339,610.

Some official from Kent Council received a 420,000 pound pay-off ! I bet she doesnt need to go to food banks
I know its shocking ,its the same here in Mexico ,the politicos steal from the poor people.

It shouldn't be this way in Britain though. Corruption is not rife and there is generally a sense of fair play (unlike some countries). You may dislike the Conservatives, but they are bringing greater transparency into local government and quango pay, which has grown to these gargantuan levels as a result of Labour's time in office.

Why do so many English people seem so bitter about the prospect of Scotland becoming independent? Can't you all just be happy for us?

:)

After 39 pages I can confirm that I couldn't give a **** but if it makes you happy then fill your boots.

I do notice the number of Sean Connery nationalists. All in favour of independence as long as they don't have to live there.

Well obviously many of the Scots discussing independence on this forum don't live in Scotland anymore - it is an expat forum after all. I don't see how this means that we can't have an opinion.

I plan on living in Scotland long term anyway. Edinburgh and Glasgow are two of the best cities in the UK, the scenery is fantastic, the economy is one of the most prosperous of the regions of the UK, and the people are great in general. There's scope for improvement obviously, which is something I hope an independent Scotland can achieve.

I don't think that many Scottish people are enamoured with the idea either.

Interesting but polls are usually shite - just ask the NDP in BC ;)

I suspect that of they did a poll outside a chip shop during lunch break near a school, they would get a different result. Nevertheless, I expect that poll you speak of to be close to the actual result come September. We can then all get on with our lives. Oh yes, and chuckle at the crankies ( Scottish first minister and his deputy) and their loony vision. Roll on!
