Not quite yet. Canada plays either sweden or slovakia on Friday first, then if they win the gold medal on Sunday. But I will say that they "team canada" is finally playing as a "team".....and played very very well. I was very dubious whether they would win this game....

Actually, I'd be pretty happy if Canada lost to Russia today - not because I wish the NHL second-string all-star team ill, but because it might shut the TV commentary people up about hockey and help Canada to appreciate some of the other phenomenal athletic achievements of these games. Sure, the hockey women will probably win gold, but that's such a no-contest it quickly becomes boring. There are some potentially good battles elsewhere - in the cross-country 4x10km relay (the team pursuit team finished a creditable fourth); in both men's and women's curling; in women's figure skating; in the four-man and two-woman bob; the list goes on. The Olympics is not all about hockey. Even the US TV networks are relegating hockey matches to the cable sports channels in favour of figure skating (NBC didn't carry the Canada-US game live on its main network, for example); the rest of the world really doesn't care. Moscow is pissed, their gold medal favored team just got SLAUGHTERED by a Canadian team. The thing about Olympic hockey is that this team of players will never be assembled again. |

The line changes have made a big difference in the team. Sweden will likely be a tougher game than Slovakia would be, but I'm confident that we can beat either of them.
Canada were awful against Switzerland and the US. The Germans were a non-contest and things apparently clicked against Russia. Although all the ex-pats who know lots about Hockey because they clearly played it growing up say they played well. The pressure is on Team Canada....good result or fluke- time will tell. |

You must be living under a rock if you think nobody has been paying attention to the other Canadian teams/athletes. Hockey is bigger than Rugby, field hockey and cricket. Much of the world does care, maybe not Brits, but other nations do. 12 teams, 7 flag bearers, neither were Canada or the US.

To put Hockey in the same bracket as cricket is rediculous. The population of India is far greater than North America.....then lets factor in everyone else. |

Moscow is sleeping. If they wanted to promote hockey globally it would've been put on at a decent hour. Another black mark for VANOC........

I know what you are saying man, me and my buddies used to play street hockey all the time. There's like over 10 massive countries that play hockey, including Finland and Slovakia. They're like really big countries that love hockey too. It's the world's game, everybody like my uncle and my granddad is watching. And also like, soccer is boring and played by European softies.

lol, hockey is more popular in more countries than cricket ever as, is, or will be. I can guarantee you that Moscow was awake for that game. ;)
Sadly Hockey is the worst performing North American game, hence why so many franchises struggle in the US. I was dissapointed by the lack of people in the bar tonight. Infact I watched the game and my two best Canadian freinds couldn't make it for apparently good reasons. Canadian sports passion is just not the same. Full stop. |

No,no. That's the Official Name. It's just the slovenly Canucks who've dropped the 'd'. And sometimes even the Ice too. Interestingly enough they still use the correct term for Iced Cappucino.
