Actually, going by the names of the league teams these guys play for, I think they were playing against a second U.S. team.

That's the impression I got from your first post. I thought it was a bit like the World Series where only American teams are invited to take part.

Isn't that why they invite a token Canadian team (Blue Jays) to play, so that they can say it's the "world" series....?

I watched it with 5 Canadian's. There were alot of sour grapes when I asked them if they thought their team was over-rated? Struggled to beat Switzerland and beaten by the US. The guys actually agreed but the girlfreind's were not happy at my lack of jingoism saying I would never "fit in".

I just replied "Don't worry maybe in 4 years time....."

USA was better and deserved to win, it's as simple as that.

Sounds like how Kiwi's feel about the All Blacks. They think they're the best even when they suck....

Yes I drew my 4 more years from when the Australians taunted the Kiwi's back in 2003. Unfortunately no one has the divine right to win.

On the postive side I have fallen in love with Mellisa Hollingsworth:wub:

She is my new heroe-ess or is it heroine???

...I know very little about iced hockey, but I'm guessing that if a pup wearing an "Oilers" collar tried to bite my ar$e it would probably miss.

It isn't really true. Both teams played well. The game was decided by the goalies. The US goalie played a blinder. The Canadian goalie cocked up a few times, expensively. Canada outshot the USA 45-23.

It was a lovely game, both teams did their best. Bravo for the Olympics.

I'm not sure that "lovely" is an appropriate word for a mens' hockey game but it was indeed a very good game. Imagine what the score would have been if the goalies had swapped shirts at the start.

Why is it that when Canadians watch ice hockey they don't sing songs and just go, Lets go Canada. It doesn't sound very supportive, don't they care about their team?

What, exactly, is "their" team?

Because I am sad, I recently looked up he team rosters for the Olympics. The norm appears to be 23 players. The US squad had only 2 players that didn't play for US teams. So did the Canadian squad. Sweden managed slightly better, with a whopping four that don't play in the NHL. The other European teams were a bit more national, but not all that much.

I'm not sure if I heard this correctly on the news last night but did they shut the liquor stores in Vancouver at 7pm yesterday?

Don't you have to be Canadian to play for Canada?

That's shocking. Don't they normally close at 5 PM?

That's sort like the question of why didn't Ryan Giggs play for England. We could have done with a left sided player for the last 15 years.

rwin Feb 22nd 2010 4:01 am

Re: Iced Hockey...

The way they've been spouting off for the last few months about hockey I'm kind of happy they lost. Everyone seemed to think they deserve to win because it's "Canada's game." Maybe if it was a team and not a collection of pro-athletes that will go back to playing against each other for ridiculous salaries in a couple of weeks they'd do better.

We've had one. It's called a Labour government. Triffic at scoring goals. Own goals, admittedly.

I realise this dates me, but as longtime admirer of the former party leader Hugh Gaitskell, I take that sort of flippant humour in a very dim light.
