I'll watch a couple of hours of Lewis Black this evening to put my mind straight. (If you haven't heard him, his routine on Rumsfeld shooting his hunting partner is very funny. As, BTW, is the "two starbucks".)

It’s a great statement, but lacks any touch with reality
when you’re in the shit it’s very hard to focus on the positives as its the negatives that are giving you the problems and they need fixing, and in some severe cases it can be hard to find something positive that’s worth focusing on when you dealing with a crisis
I personally wouldn’t give a rats arse about the pretty mountains if I had hungry kids to feed
I’d suggest a pragmatic attitude will serve you better; looking on the bright side of life can be kept for singing whilst hanging around on crucifixes

Whilst you may not give a rats arse about the view, your kids are still something positive to focus on. Try some Bobby McFerrin if Monty Python isn't working for you!

We may make at most about 10 % of sweeping generalisations and maybe up to 1% of specifics
The other 89%.... completly wasted bandwidth suitable for nothing more than flattering our own ego’s

The problem with the British (of which I am one to dispell any further rumours), is that we're so damned quick to take offense over things like cultural differences. Pretending they don't exist is just sticking your head in the sand.
Saying this I find the Chinese good people to do business with. Again it's a cultural thing and perhaps a personality match on my part.

This is really REALLY amusing. Just because someone agrees with me it MUST be that I've gone in, created multiple IDs and written words of support to my original post. Because the very thought that ANYONE might find truth in what I write is preposterous. So clearly I'm that insecure in what I write, I have to create pseudonyms for moral support and because I clearly give a toss that one or two have differing views. Lord give me strength!

I am not used to compromising on the health of my family but in BC I am forced to. This is not only extremely uncomfortable, it also gives me the sense that I'm somehow selling out on the health of my kids. I simply don't believe people experience this in UK in the same way.
I would recommend families be on around 120-150k and this isn't necessarily comfortable. My regular bills are not excessive yet cost me $70k a year AFTER TAX. So I need to be earning $100k at least to pay that. Yet who pays that kind of salary here? The market has seen a 30% drop but bills continue to rise. This is the reality of living in BC.
