He had been ill with pneumonia for a few weeks - and was only tested last week for Covid .. so which did him in, pneumonia at 100 years old, or Covid? I noticed the media states 'WITH Covid, not OF Covid" - but no doubt it will become 'he died from covid"

Captain Sir Tom Moore: 'National inspiration' dies with Covid-19
He tested positive for Covid-19 last week. His family said due to other medication he was receiving for pneumonia, he was unable to be vaccinated.

Some Trumpers would go as far to say that if you died in a car accident but had a positive COVID test, you would still be marked as dying from COVID.

That's the argument people have been making since Feb 2020. Thousands of elderly folk all over the world have been dying in a similar way, but their death certificate says they died from COVID because they tested positive for the virus.

My father had diabetes from being a young boy. In his early 30’s he had pancreatic cancer. No 1 cause of death on his birth certificate was diabetes millitus, 2nd was pancreatic cancer.

My grandmother the medical examiner didn't include a cause of death, just manner of death.

Agreed, but it is important to be able to distinguish between deaths where COVID-19 was a contributory cause from those where COVID-19 was the underlying cause of death.
In the case of poor old Tom, I think it's safe to assume that COVID was a contributory cause, and pneumonia was the underlying cause of his death.
