None of the bread here is great - you just make do with what you can find. The dempsters ancient grains stuff isn't that bad by local standards; it doesn't taste like ****ing cake which is something.

All bread has sugar in it - it's what makes yeast work!

Just as an example, Dempsters Villagio contains 3g of sugar per 2 slices (1.5g each); Warburtons (UK) Seeded batch contains exactly the same amount - 1.5g per slice. Hovis soft white has 1.4g per slice.

Silverhills bread has 1g per slice, so slightly less.

I think it's a case of finding one you like, though I have found my taste buds adjusting over the years I still can't stand quite a few.

I wonder why some taste sweeter than others? Maybe the type of sugar/syrup used?

No idea, but I was gobsmacked at how many different breads "Canada Bread" make.

You can even order frozen bread from them online, I never knew!
