So if they're so fat because the bread is too sweet, what's the UKs excuse where people here are claiming it's better.

You'll notice the map colour for the UK is the same as that for North America.

I don't eat bread, but my partner has been complaining about the sweetness. There's a bread in Safeway that looks (and apparently tastes) just like tiger breat (or giraffe bread). Good for toasting.

Dempsters and D'Italiano are the closest I've found too.
I got that pi$$ed off with the price of bread here I actually got a bread maker and make my own every few days. With a bit of playing it turns out quite nice and has no sugar/additives etc.
I just need to get a cow now so we can make our own cheese....

Tiger bread might actually be called Dutch crunch in safeway.

I find the baked in store breads are better than the pre packaged stuff, more $$$ though. We do like the triangle buns from Costco.

right!! So no major concensus on d bread aside that its crap!! Well I went to d coop last night and bought flour, bread soda, cream of tartar, etc and soured two pints if milk overnight. Made a curney Irish bread and a wholemeal liaf this morning. Both FAB.. Overall cost about $1.20 per loaf..

We had heard that bread was sweet before we arrived so was planning to bake my own. However, we don't eat a lot of bread in our house so due to wastage I buy the really cheap "Good Value" brand at Walmart (white and brown) and it tastes like any other bread back home.
When I was trying a different supermarket last week I bought a brand name bread and it tastes awful, really sweet so at least now I do see where everyone was coming from on the bread thing
.
Cheapy Walmart bread - might be below quality but it does at least taste like bread.
