I have seen some b@#$% written on this forum ,but the smugness of some on this thread takes the biscuit.
As someone who left school in early 70s i dont think i wrote as much as a letter until i bought a computer in the late 90s.
not everyone who moves to canada from the uk went to university /college further education.
Yes ,standards of grammar may be important to some but in the big picture of moving to canada it means nothing .
Dont bother with the smug replies as i wont be back on this thread.

Anyone else agree?

If you're moving to Canada then you should have at least the ability to type a sentence with semi-correct grammar, right?
slow day in windsor ?

What's your point james? - moving to Canada for the majority includes a requirement to find work, therefore in the big picture your ability to communicate on paper appropriately is important.

Having had no need to write a letter for close to 20 years doesn't mean correct grammar becomes any less useful.

Really?

Why is it that kids need to, as a minimum, finish high school? Why bother being literate? If one aspires to a lifetime of living off basic wages, or ‘thriving’ on welfare, I imagine all one need do is manage a grunt, when needed speak in monosyllables, and maintain a basic level of personal hygiene as there is bound to be a minimal amount of interaction with others.

Even University is no longer a big deal. Education is no longer a luxury --- it is a necessity.

Ironic since, on the job front at this very forum, there are so many threads devoted to properly written and grammatically correct CV’s.

Go figure!

Whats worse then someone spelling something incorrectly?

Some know-it-all publically correcting it for them.

Ah, the incorrect use of "I".

Canadians, even supposedly edumacated ones, appear incapable of using anything other than "I" when "me" is quite clearly more betterer.

My pet peeve are those who insist on using 'precede' instead of proceed or vice versa

Media newscasters are notorious for this.

I also dislike the constant uses of the word 'like' to start a sentence, particularly irritating when used by teenage girls.

Plus the expression 'you know' endlessly repeated.

God, give be a break. Happen some can't be bothered being overly grammatical to post on a forum. CV's are one thing, but gimmie a break FFS. If we want to debate the need to be well written/educated fair enough, but wasn't this expressed as an annoyance of those posting on here?

Some know-it-all who professes to be a precise speller then incorrectly spells the correction when publicly correcting them incorrectly.
