Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
Duffer - the dish that I am using at present is a 80cm digiquest.

The other dish is telesystem. I presume that it is a TE80

I have to say that the telesystem dish feels like it is a better quality that the digiquest.
I presume that both these dishes are off-set.
I am now emmersing myself into the fascinating and murky world of satellite systems.

Hey Tinca,
They're both oval dishes, i.e. offset. It's dead simple to tell the difference because the prime focus dishes are perfectly round and symetrical whereas the offset will be slightly higher than it is wide. This is confirmed by the measurements given in those links. My dish for example is stated as a 125cm but the actual measurements are 120 x 130 cm.
Ciao

Hi there,
Im an Italian currently living in London and Im looking someone to exchange their sky italy access to my sky uk access.
Its very simple to set up a vpn access in Ipad/Computer (will cost 5 dollars for a decent server) and in addition you can get also BBC Iplayer and Itv Player.
Pls PM if interested.

Hi Brian,
Slingbox will allow you to basically control remotely your television from anywhere using a pc / ipad / iphone / blackberry. In order to have this on your tv you need to connect through a pc or use another device (slingcatcher, boxee, logitech revue) to stream to the television.
You will need a slingbox set up in UK (Maplin sells a satellite receiver with slingbox integrated) with an internet at someone's house at least with 1gb upload. I believe that with a mobile internet in Italy you should be able to watch decently but bear in mind that packages in Italy usually have a cap on usage. Currently Tre in Italy are offering usb mobile internet for EUR 69 + EUR 5 monthly (cap 3 gig/month) for 6 months.

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
i've also been thinking about a slingbox/slingcatcher/smart TV combination. slingbox offer a subscription service such that you do not have to put a slingbox in someone's house in the UK. however i have been looking to see the system working in someone else's home first but cannot find anyone that has it.
i have also been thinking about FilmOn/smart TV, does anyone know if that would work?

Think the cheapest method is to use a vpn and then you should be able to access BBC Iplayer / Itv Player / Sky Go anywere using a computer outside UK.
In theory, you can have a router with a vpn and connect to a smart tv with bbc iplayer.
You can rent a slingbox but this will cost you at least GBP 40 a month.

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
It depends if you are downloading programmes to watch later (more data used of the 3Gb allowance) or if you are streaming (more efficient with the data).
So, the latest 30 min episode of Eastenders for downloading was 300mb which is roughly 10% of your monthly allowance.
If you watch it streaming, i.e. in your internet browser, watching 60 minutes of video may consume between 50MB and 225MB of data depending on your available connection speed according to the BBC website. However, you will eat up less data than downloading but at a guess I would say it gives you 1hr a day of streaming.

Has SKY News now moved to the new satellite?
Does anyone know if you can get it via ‘other channels’ ? If so what are the numbers!
