Agreed. Often you just need some clarification or someone to sense-check how you've interpreted something in the guide... the lawyers are useful for complex cases, special circumstances, etc... Generally what you can get around here is perfect!

Hi and congrats - that was quick ! I assume you were straight forward - no kids - no ex-husband - no relationship to prove etc and possibly not many years of background to check ? Please share your experience if you are happy to

Does anyone know why people who applied 1-2 months ago are already getting their decision but people who applied 6-7 months ago are still not processed? 50-70 days from start to finish is extraordinarily fast! Why are those applications getting processed before applications sent in 7 months ago?

I think there's more to it than that. Possibly those who applied earlier got caught up in the strike chaos and those who applied later got lucky and had their applications looked at after the chaos settled down.
We applied 7-8 months ago and ours was really well organized. We're relatively young, no kids, a British citizen and a Canadian citizen, common law partners together for 4 years, no illnesses, hundreds of photos supplied, lots of proof of relationship, everything laid out in order with title pages etc.
We love it here in Canada, it's an amazing country with amazing people and we are just so excited and hopeful to get PR. And it's not like things are taking longer than we expected, it's just odd how people who applied 5 months after us are already approved.

Maybe some VOs are much more efficient than others - I heard they were training more officers so perhaps the "rookies" are doing some of the " thinner, simpler" files

But in any event, your occupation will have no bearing at all on speed of spousal sponsorship processing. As somebody said above, it'll be something simple like background checks just taking longer on certain applicants.
Good luck!

I read an article in the CIC immigration news that Canada was making it faster for international nurses to apply a couple of months ago and whilst I was visiting my OH in Alberta during October the local paper had a piece in about there being a shortage of full time nurses because my mother in law cut it out to show me - but you are right about laying nurses off - didn't they do that to a lot in Quebec some time ago ( I believe it was those whose French language wasn't good enough )
