Travel insurance is fine, you don't need specific 'health insurance', as long as the travel insurance covers the things that CIC specify (medical care, hospitalisation and repatriation).

I think most IEC holders will have travel insurance, it makes far more sense to get that and have other things covered (personal effects, luggage etc) as long as the insurer are aware it's a long term visit (some will only cover you for trips up to a year for instance). Sounds like True Traveller is ideal from what you've said.

Their IEC policy covers up to £10 million for health insurance as well as repatriation. Do check the policy details though!

Hi All,

My wife and I applied for the 2016 IEC and were both accepted as applicants and entered into the pool. Yesterday we both got emails saying that the pool for 2016 is closed and we need to create new profiles.

To re-apply for the 2017 IEC do we need to wait until the pool opens? It currently just says they open "mid October" - shall I just keep checking back every day to see if it is open?

Also, based on last years first round of invitations is it likely that the draws for the 2017 IEC will be done in December again?

Any info would be great guys - is it worth me setting up a new post for the IEC 2017?

Yes, it filled quite a while ago unfortunately. Not sure why they've taken so long to tell people though!

Yep, there's no set date so it can be anytime. Take 'mid October' with a pinch of salt though, it might not be until January!

Possibly the first draws will be, but it could be sooner if it really does open in October. Then draws will be done regularly until all visas are gone, just as this year, unless of course they change things again!

I'll do it now.
