Transition period ends, some clarification documents
#226
Went to the document office Marcali today (as invited by letter) to apply for my Hungarian I.D card that was ok, done that and will be received by post. I told her about the bio data missing (she had no idea) and that everyone will have to go again for bio scan from UK and she may have moaning Brits at her dept but it is not their fault/problem. My missus ( previously mentioned) had an email from Immigration and she will also have a "letter" explaining the cockup/problem, soon ?.
I don't know how many people have been affected but after the lady I spoke to last Tuesday had checked the status of my application she told me that once the problem had been solved I would be receiving my card. From her reply I'm assuming that my application isn't one that has already been printed.,. My application was submitted on May 26th and approved on July 8th.

According to John Ainge of the FB group "British in Hungary" the problem is that the wording "Az eusz 50. Cikke alapjan" on the new cards is incorrect and new cards have to be printed. Apparently the biometrics can only be used once and once printed on a card can't be transferred to another card for reasons of security, which is why no doubt people are being recalled to have them done again.

Sounds like when they spotted this mistake they continued processing applications, but stopped processing the actual card. As no one seems to have been getting their cards for well over a month it is taking them long enough to resolve this!

Thanks for the info. Good to have some hard facts on what has happened at last.

I only live 15 kms from the Bacs-Kiskun office but my postal region is Pest, so I have to make the 200 kms round trip, Pain even if I can travel there for free.

I have to make the120 km round trip into Miskolc which with all the hold ups due to the construction of the new Miskolc/Kosice motorway can take me nearly 2 hours to drive to Miskolc

I would imagine you'll have to go back for the biometric data to be redone. No idea how long the card is valid for nor the regulations about renewing it.

According to a member of the FB "British in Hungary" group, who yesterday went to redo his biometric data, only about 500 Brits are affected and will have to go and have their fingerprints and photo taken again.

Biometrics didn't work so suspect I will have to go back another time. Photo was successful but had to remove glasses as I wasn't wearing them for my passport photo. Reason being reflection on my lenses!
Biometrics - seems the equipment is not up to the job. My mobile and laptop uses fingerprint recognition and never had a problem except when finger's are dirty or I've just done the washing up.

It is not the regulation itself that is wrong, it is the fact that half is printed on the front of the card and half is written on the back. or so the lady said.
Two hours travelling to get there and two hours home and less than two minutes in the office. (got there 10 mins early and was first one waiting, there were 4 others after me)
I understand that for security they cannot transfer biometric data from one card to another, actually it is only the photo, the fingerprints go into the system but are not recorded in anyway on the card. BUT. . . .
When I was complaining gently about all the travelling for only a two minute session, and the possible need to do it again in 5 years (should I live that long) The lady said No. we will send your replacements in the post in future, and even though it says you should return expired cards, it is not actually necessary to do so.
So make of that what you will, or watch this space and I will give you an update in about 5 years (if I am still alive!)

I bumped into an English couple today that we haven't seen for a few years. They've lived nearby for many years. He is an ex police officer. He wasn't aware that they had to anything re their registration cards. He said that he'd been to the kormányablak in Eger and been told that their old blue and white cards were good and did not need to be changed/updated!! This means that they will potentially be expelled from Hungary in January. I've sent him the information that they need to apply for their new residence permits. He said that he was also told that they didn't need to exchange their driving licences for Hungarian ones. They merely needed to leave and re-enter Hungary at least once a year.

It just goes to show you cannot take just one persons advice as absolute.
I for one am very glad to have all you Guys/Gals/Men/Women/Persons/or People floating around the ether.
