I cant find a link to this article.....
in todays TOI

Cell connections for foreigners.
Foreign tourists will only be issued mobile phone connections for 3 months even if the visa is extended beyond that period!!!!!!
The home ministry directive is an attempt to check misuse of sim cards.
:eek::confused::ohmy:

Governments around the world take some decisions that border on the ridiculous, probably a list could be compiled on a daily basis!

If this Daily Mail article http://tinyurl.com/8epkd45 is right then this deportation decision should be on top of that list

And on a relevant note............

http://www.tribuneindia.com/2012/20120903/main3.htm

Mobile phone connections to be limited to duration of visa or 3 months, whichever is the shorter, so even on a six month stay you will have to change number. And keeping one from year to year will be impossible.

Yes exactly, wonder how a 3 month validity Sim card cannot be "misused" but a 6 month one can be

And a person whose family has made positive contributions to Britain for generations is to be deported  And we all know that those who.......... oh well the Daily Mail article says it all

Im wondering if this is a slip up to all visas being 3 months only ? Strange that it isnt 6 months and as you said 3 months doesnt make any sense ! My friend in Greece who texts himself every month to keep his sim working texted me to day saying his sim wasnt working from last week. He has had the same sim for over 8 years.

Now you have got me worried. I have switched my Indian phone on and I am waiting to see if any messages come in. Idea keep sending me details of roaming charges each time I switch the phone on. I still appear to have a service with Vodafone UK who Ideas say is their UK partner. Will let you know the outcome but not until tomorrow as I am going out now. I have had the same number for about 10 years.

It sounds very strange Preston, I'll hop into the local Vodaphone and Airtel shops tomorrow and check details

Total waste of time, just paying lip service to the 'holier than thou brigade'. It's the oldest profession in the world and it will never be eradicated, it would make far more sense and be far more effective to legalise it, then control can be exerted through legislation. It would be safer for the sex workers and help ensure that only those that were there as a 'career choice' remained employed.

The place is to be closed down because it is suspected of being a front for prostitution - the typical Goan / Indian approach to due process!

Oldest profession in the world yes! have no objection, if kept off the streets out of sight. Would be mortified if I went into a Health & Spa boutique and found parts were being used by prossies.

Read all of my post Noni - As I said if it were legalised it could be controlled and there would then be no chance of any confusion between a brothel and a spa; both could operate as what they are.

What a bit like the Baina area was before Parrikar marched in during his previous tenure and demolished the entire place?

Prior to that prostitution was hardly heard of elsewhere, but thanks to those actions and the bl@@dy Russians its everywhere.....
