Re: In To-day's Newspapers
The fact is she should have seeked medical advice, paid for her jabs in India, and all that entails (own needles etc.)
It appears she is of Indian origin, and Indians do know the risks of animal bites, unlike most short term tourists (which she may have been).
Turning up once the symptoms are there is basically too late, and unless she stated the connection to the animal bite probable flu like symptoms were why NHS. sent her home.
I get my rabies shots every couple of years, but that's only so I get the chance to travel to medical centre I trust etc. to receive vaccine.

I can`t get any links to work... but fuel prices have been hiked by 7.5 rs(11p) a litre overnight!!!!!!
I think if this had happened in the UK there would be more riots.
Prices in Delhi and mumbai close on 80rs a litre.
Fortunately the new Goan Government dropped prices by 10 rs a litre to 55rs but this increase puts it back to virtually the same price at 63rs... but still cheaper than the rest of India... but still b`````y expensive for the low wage earning Goans.

Family blast Foreign Office for 'lack of help'
26 May: Derby Telegraph (UK). The family of Derby mum Denyse Sweeney, who died in mysterious circumstances in Goa, have criticised the Foreign Office for not doing enough to help them… the family's meeting last night with Labour MP Margaret Beckett, who they hoped would help them, had been "hugely disappointing"…

Will believe this when I see it !!!
Or will the only people to be booked be the ones who refuse to pay of the Goan police?
Still it makes for ironically amusing reading

Editorial: Foreign Office must provide the impetus for full Denyse inquiry
29 May: Derby Telegraph (UK). Margaret Beckett offers the wise words of experience when she warns of the lack of a "magic wand" to address the Denyse Sweeney scandal… Mrs Beckett as a former Foreign Secretary, will be only too aware of the obstacles likely to be in the way of a proper investigation if there is not the will for it to take place in India. East Midlands Euro MP Bill Newton Dunn, who has raised the issue during a trip to India, has already warned that it could take some greasing of palms

Even if no foreigners were present, did the inevitable Goans or other Indians working there think this was acceptable?

Goa mother was hit on head with rock, couple tell grieving family
Maureen Sweeney said the call was from a couple who said "it was common knowledge" in Goa that a man hit her sister, Denyse, on the head with a rock while she was sitting at a beach shack.
