I'm less surprised about the dead fish than the comment in the article about the beaches having been cleaned by contractors !!! Does that mean that huge pile of garbage to the right of Calangute steps has finally been sorted?

Leading Hotels bags bid to develop golf course in North Goa 2 May: PTI.

Tourism Dept to break new grounds to promote Goa

2 May: Herald. The decline in the inflow of high spending tourists in the last few years has made the Tourism Department realize that everything is not hunky-dory. In 2007-2008, 100,664 UK tourists came to Goa but by 2009-2010 the number came down to 52,296. Similar is the case with other European countries such as Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Italy even as the number of Russian tourists increased...

Same reason Abu Hamza (hook hand man) and all the other hate clerics are able to stay - Tony Blair ensured that the Human Rights Act went through into law so his wife could get rich - and now we can't get rid of them because of it! The UK had no need for this legislation - most of the areas were already legislated and the only people to really benefit were those who come to the UK illegally or are none British and commit crime!

So for all you folks who voted for Tony B-liar - nice one !!!

Dread, I believe it was the European court which prevented the extradition of Hamza; and we accepted jurisdiction in the 1960s. Incorporating into our law just meant there was no need to go to Strasbourg, although certainly more cases and more money for English lawyers.
Isn't the main problem loose definitions and the judges rulings?
(I didn't vote for Blair and I think they would be raking in the money regardless they seem to be shameless).

I thought that when we were originally voted into europe by some people (not me) it was just a trading entity. It has grown over the years into an all singing all dancing entity with massive rights over the UK and now they are even suggesting that they take part of the UK and part of France and form a separate country. The part of the UK they want is the most prosperous area of course.

Common misconception:
The Strasbourg Court for dealing with the European Convention on Human Rights is nothing to do with the European Union (although they have now signed up to it).
It was introduced after the last war because of war atrocities etc.

PS you have put Dread's quote as mine.

Hrm. Simpler visa issue would help, why give a 3/6 months visa for a 3 weels holiday. Give longer visa's to people who want to stay longer.

Simple eh. Ah but i forgot. "Incredible India" Innit.

If it's simple, change it and make it complicated.

Your right, three or four weeks on arrival would be good for getting tweekers in and longer visas on application as they are now would work well. Add doing away with the two month rule and people like us who like be at home for Christmas so now only travel out after Christmas and go somewhere else before Christmas would spend more time and money there.

Tourist taxi, rickshaw panels oppose digital meters 3

Mat: Times of India. Tourist taxi associations and rickshaw associations on Monday rejected the proposal of transport department to have digital electronic meters fixed on their vehicles on the grounds that it would not be economically viable for them…
are you surprised?

Indian-Americans protest over new Indian visa rules

3 May: Economic Times. Indian-Americans in major US cities have protested over the delay in receiving Indian visas following the introduction of new rules. Protesters were carrying banners, getting signatures on a petition for the Prime Minister of India, and also sent letters to their US representatives

I was referring to the 1998 order signed by Jacqui Smith for extradition to USA where he was wanted on 'terror charges'. The court at Strasbourg ruled against. He would have been gone!!.

Just seen what I have written; extradition order was made in 2008, not 1998. (Early morning, my only excuse).
