May I just summarise?

Is there crime in Australia? - yes, but the criminals just wear less clothes and perhaps thongs.

Is there crime in the UK? Yes, but the criminals may speak in another language and wear hoodies and stuff.

Would my bike get stolen outside a shop in Australia? - Yes but depends which shop

Would my bike get stolen outside a shop in the UK? - Yes but depends which shop

Do people get raped/mugged/stolen/kidnapped/killed in Australia? - Yes

Do people get raped/mugged/stolen/kidnapped/killed in the UK - Yes

Am I totally deluded, lying and wearing rose tints because I say that I am happy living in Australia and I havent been raped/mugged/killed/used as a sex slave/burgled? - Yes totally deluded, you cannot possibly be happy so please remove those rose tints and move to the UK.

Am I happy? You could be but you should find out by moving to Australia/UK (delete as appropriate) to truly find your inner happiness.

There you go - all summed up.

I've just come off the phone with a mate in the UK. He's just lost his job and being in his 50's he's not hugely hopeful of ever working again. Unsurprisingly, he unloaded the weight of the world on me a bit, primarily about just how crap everything is at the moment.... and getting worse.
His thoughts prompted me to have a look on Google Streetview, at what used to be a thriving local high street, where I used to live.

Take a look http://g.co/maps/dbpk8

Not everywhere is "Sunny Somerset"
