We go down that way quite often. The drive is one of the best. Stop at Bulli Tops and check out the view over Wollongong or alternatively, take the coast route via the Seacliff Bridge. There are some lovely little places to the north of Wollongong - Stanwell Park is in a lovely setting as is Scarborough, Coalcliff, Coledale etc.

Stop and take a look at the blowhole at Kiama. It's kitschy but can be spectacular on some days. Better when the weather is bad.

Berry is chock full of cafes, gift shops, homeware shops. Excellent for browsing and lunch.

Are staying at Mollymook too? It's not a huge place but it has a nice beach. Milton, just up the road, is cute and a smaller version of Berry these days.

You must go to one of the beaches in Murramarang national park (south of Mollymook and north of Batemans Bay). Pebbly Beach is a good one and perfect for visitors from the UK. You get kangaroos on the beach and zillions of parrots flying around.

From Mollymook you can also explore the Jervis Bay villages. They get dolphins in the Bay, if you like that sort of thing.

There are not a huge amount of 'attractions' as such on the South Coast. The attraction down there is really the scenery. Nice, empty beaches with lots of lovely, rolling hills with the range behind. I really like it.

Thanks Nicky. Yes we have two nights at Mollymook.

We're probably going down via Nowra as MiL wants to see some long-lost relatives if we can make contact with them; after that, our time is our own to chill out after a few mad days in Sydney and catching up with the Campbelltown family too. Sedate pottering would be lovely :)

Unfortunately people have to work during the day and strangely enough the sun doesn't stay out in the evenings. For example where I am it's dark between 6-7pm all year round.

Darkness is not condusive to "exploring" so how does one entertain oneself in the dark evenings? Well it tends to be the same stuff as in the UK. In the main people read, watch TV, or spend time on some type of games console or computer.

Gawd help us some people even chat to people they know and also to strangers on BE in preference to those other things. No big deal but without that there would be just some factually based reference tool. There are lots of those sites out there so why don't people use them? Because they are not interactive like this one and that is a massive difference.

shame on you working 7 days a week

Restaurants! I've got a table at the Press Club, Melbourne next weekend. Didn't think I'd get a table at such short notice. We're having their course of degustation...listed as the symposium degustation...

Online reviewers complain that there are too many people wishing to be seen in there. Well at the prices they list, I'd want to see who else was there...

Got a hotel around the corner too.

I do not have any problem with genuine, honest people who are forced to claim benefits, but there are too many people who abuse the system in one way or another, people claiming benefits and working on the side, people claiming they can not work because of bad backs, a symptom hard to prove one way or another , couples not working but decide to have 3 or 4 kids and expect everyone else to pay for the kids, the way I see it if too many people take sooner or later it will run out

So, people are 'a waste of space' because they challenge your ridiculous notion that the things you are running away from in the UK don't happen in Australia. We may be nasty but you are silly and delusional.

Okey Dokey ... Given the prevailing conditions (housework done, childcare not my responsibility, one job interview for the week done, can think of nothing further to add to this increasing bizarre and pointless thread) I'm ******g off down the coast for the day.

Activities will include:

------------------------------------------
- A nice stroll by the sea
- Some lunch accompanied by a beer
- Perfecting the art of doing Sod All
- Taking big lung-fulls of sea air
- Flirting with women*

* Subject to terms and conditions
