just be as honest as you can and you wil be fine there is no reason why you wouldnt get the visa as long as you are honest and your police checks and meds are fine, even then certain things are waivered, I can tel you not to worry , but if your anythig like me you will unfortunatly. Just prepare for everything and you wil be fine and less stressed.

Another thing when you are waiitng for your PMV to come through im sure you have to be in the UK, so not a good idea to go to Canada before it comes through, just incase I am correct and what if IMMI need to see you for any reason. They will need your passport to stamp you either send with application or you wait until you are given visa and send off to Immi then , if you do this you need to send a certified copy of your passport - this is what I did, as I may go up in person and hand my passport in when visa is given, I wil make an appointment etc etc, but will have a CO so prob be easier to get an appointment.

Dont know how much 2nd stage costs ? prob the same amount ? I know PMV is £500 something ? It works out cheaper than us flying out for wedding coming back and then flying back on spouse, that wouldbe about £4500, but with PMV $500 Spouse £500? and one way flghts there, prob about £3000, saves us around £1500. Just saving every peny @ mo as soon as visa through we are off to Europe for a few weeks , then fly out and stop in Dubai!! woo hoo!!

sorry, am I totally missing something? what do you mean by temp residency visa?

I think you have to apply for a PMV if youplan to get married and then go onto your spouse, PMV is a temp residency visa and then your first spouse for 2 years is also classed as a temp residency visa, until you get your PR after the 2 years of your spouse and then its another application, but if you have children that gets waivered and you just do the citenzenship test and hey presto!!

temp res is your PMV and spouse until you get your PR permanant residence

We are applying for a sublcass 309 visa which is for a temp residency visa which is valid for 2 years. If after 2 years things are still going smoothly you will be automatically considered for a permanent residency visa. It's all here:

You don't need to be getting married to get a Visa. This way you will only have to pay for the one visa (it's around £550). IMO the only reason you would bother with a PMV would be if you didn't meet the requirements of the temp residency visa.

hmmm .... Timbo-Em, you could be on to something. I'm sure I looked into all of this before, but that was so long ago, I may have thought we didn't have the 12 month thing going in our favour.
I will have to investigate further. But the only proof we have of living together for 12 months is council tax bills (everything else was in my name only) will this be enough do you think?
Alos, I read on here about a guy last year who applied for something like the PMV and then his CO upgraded him cos he had enough evidence - anyone heard of that?

Wht do you think Jutang? are you not in similar situation? you and OH have been together 3 years so how come you are applying for PMV?

this is the easiest way chicke, you wil have more rights and more chance of getting PR for oz as the partner of an Aussie than you would on any other visa, PMV is classed a a temp residence visa as you are classed as temp until you apply for your 2nd stage which is spouse andeven then you are temp until after 2 years , which then you become PR and then after 5 years you get your Aussie passport. There is no other visa if you are getting married, the other partner visa is called interdependendy, which is for mostly gay or lesbian couples as cant get married in most places and for peeps who ahve been in a long term commitment but are nt married, but that is harder than the PMV, you need more proof as there is no intention to get married.

I'm off to apply for my Aussie passport tomorrow, after which we'll be applying for visa's for my wife and 5 children. I've seen it mentioned on here that your medicals can be 'preloaded'? The Aussie gov website says to hold off until you're meds are requested, can I just download the forms from the UK site and go ahead with the medicals prior to putting the application in? And if so what happens when the results arrive and there's as yet no corresponding application? We'll be applying in London.

Thanks in advance, we want to get things moving so if we can get the meds and police check out of the way beforehand we figure it will make things easier.

We're looking at Melbourne by the way, as long as the visas are ok and we manage to sell the house we aim to be there this year...

I think you have to be married already for this one ? or in a defacto relationship, which is classed as if you are married ,so you would need to prove life long commitment with that person, quite hard to do if only been living together for 1 year ?? I would of thought. Check with Immi, but when I emailed them asking ages ago,. they said the PMV. We are not applying for it cos I wouldnt of thought we have enough evidence to prove a defacto relationship. Im sure if you do mapply for PMV and your CO thinks you can upgrade he will upgrade you.

yep just checked with booklet 1 for partner migration and the above visa is if you are married or in a defacto relationship - classed as common law husband or wife, which I think you need to be living together for a few number fo years. x

Have to disagree with you there jutang. To apply for a temp residency visa "You and your partner must have been in a de-facto spouse relationship for the entire 12 months immediately prior to lodging your application."

If you can prove that then theres no reason why you should be looking at PMV. Marriage isn't the institution it once was so you can't expect people to be only granted visas under the expectation that they are or will be getting married.

hmm ... yeh a tough one. I'm sure that was my first thought about the de-facto status "I don't have enough evidence", but after having a brief look again, it only says you have to have been living together for a year and prove your relationship is serious and ongoing. Ohh, I don't know what to do now. It would be so much easier to miss out a stage and it would save money too ... but a big risk.

email IMMI and ask, but sure you can as you wil be aplying for spouse for your wife and dependency for your children, are you an Aussie, I assume cos you are getting your Aussie passport ? ? If thats the case your kids will have citenzenship by descent so they can get Aussie passports, it will just be your wife who wil have to apply for visa and maybe only her to do meds ?Unless your kids are over 18 and not dependents anymore ? In that case they wil have to apply for seperate visa. I uploaded my meds, so you can do it, just emai imi or call them to check, they are really helpful!!
