I am a 24 year old female Irish citizen(Co.Cork) in Australia on a Business 457 visa and my australian boyfriend has asked me to marry him.I cannout get another visa as my current job is not on the list for a skilled mig visa etc..We have been dating for over a year and living together the past few months...Can we get married hassle free or can someone please tell me wat to expect..I know I must give notification a month before the impending marriage but is that all..?Any information would be greatly appreciated..
Once married can I cancel my 457 visa as I would like to study childcare and work for my current employer 2-3 days a week, which he agrees to as he doesn't want to lose me because I am one of if not his only best worker..Have tried ringing immigration but no help watsoever..Must I then get a spouse visa..
Sorry about the 20 million questions just looking for some good news if even just a little..Think you have replied to me in the past
Regards

I think you were pointed in the direction of Geogre Lombard previously, can't get much better than to follow that advice.

From: Brisbane (originally Co.Cork,Ireland!)Not anymore though I hope

The best advice you can get is that you have already been given in the Immigration forum - get advice from an agent to ensure that you do things the best way to avoid causing visa hassles. For instance, don't think of cancelling your 457 visa. You need to apply for a spouse visa and then you will get a bridging visa which will tide you over until a decision is made, but in order to do this the correct way you need to speak to a professional.

I applied for my spouse visa today!
Finally!
I work along the road from Australia House so I dropped it in rather than put it in the post. So now just got to play the waiting game! Hopefully I'll hear some good news by Christmas?!

Good Luck, let us know how long it takes.. we've applied about the 15th of Nov, and unlike some lucky people, we're still waiting - having had to complete some additional forms (form 80!)

Hi All
I just want to say how interesting this thread is- wish i could have found it months ago-would have helped me out soo much! Well Im the spouse well defacto! My partner is the Aussie- We have submitted our application and i had telephone interview with CO- who was really nice basically just had a quick chat. Now all we are waiting for is med results and aussie police check- Im hearing horror stories about the delays in these.. any one have any idea when we might get those in? Police check would have been recieved by them about a wk ago and did the meds last week.. The waiting would drive anyone crazy.. oh im heading to Perth by the way. Im hoping by Feb..
