Yes, scrap the whole thing. Finance your own family. But I believe couples do cope as it currently is and so there is no call for it to change. If anyone is struggling, they should qualify for welfare. Welfare for the rich is a bit sickening as that's what this policy is. If we cut in half what it would cost by reducing it from $75000 to $50000, it's quite obviously a tax break for the rich more than anyone else.

You are prejudice against the rich. Why? Jealousy?

What do you class as rich? Family on $200,000? Labour would. Let's say a couple are collectively on $200,000 a year, have a mortgage to pay that reflects their earnings. Suddenly that income is halved to $100,000 per year. New babies cost and that mortgage doesn't sustain itself. You want to means test the shite out of that because some bogan never had or will have a mortgage because they weren't given the same opportunity in life. Please.

Well, as the right are so fond of saying when it comes to benefit claimers having children, why should we have to pay for people's lifestyle choices?

No one should pay for anyone's lifestyle choice. Whether that's your choice to do nothing with your life or do something. What's your point?

If people want to have children then they have to pay for it and not have government handouts.......why haven't they saved out of their large incomes?

This is simply a typical right wing government way of keeping the wealth among their own supporters.

Stripping it all back to the bare bones of not handing out a thing for your choices ..... I totally agree.

Bloody hell. If you choose to have a baby, that's your choice and should be affordable by you first and foremost. I'm not prejudice against the rich. They should enjoy the money they earned. They shouldn't look for handouts that they don't need. If they were to give birth to a baby who needs special care, we should help. But a decision they made is for them to support. What's so wrong with scraping by when a baby comes along? Isn't that how most of us grew up?

Yep. Hey I'm not advocating handouts for babies. But if handouts are to occur, they should be done evenly, rich or poor.
