Why all the focus on lies? Everyone who has ever executed a plan knows it does not survive contact with the real world.
It's tough being a leader whatever your convictions. Let's pay down debt and get on with it. I think in the west we over analyse politician's promises : it's just a tender to get a contract. A big difference. Lie to your shareholders and find yourself in jail. You want to significantly change the business plan you only recently put to them, you go back and get their agreement.

Put side political ideology for a moment - he's been out and out lying about his plans. There is nothing that has happened between Sept and now that should invalidate his plans then - except he's not holding to what he got elected on. Thus, liar. No matter how much you might not like or agree with Rudd or Gillard - they weren't anywhere near that level of deceit. |

This 'levy' is lazy politics - there are so many ways to get rid of debt without raising taxes
Cut government spending and bureaucracy before even contemplating tax rises TA needs to be careful. Gillard was ultimately judged by the people on her broken promises - the same could happen to him PUP will block it anyway |

It could go either way in 2016. |

That's not the extent of the damage. He's broken too many promises already.

Though I probably don't ally with much of what Palmer stands for, I do appreciate the waves that he is making in upsetting the complacency apple cart. S |

Yes, not an option for Labor considering they are letting any leader to serve a full term without any call for a leadership ballot. That might come back to bite them. Anthony Albanese would get more public votes.
Shorten has the blood of two PMs on his hands - I don't think the public will forget that any time soon. He also seems to have no conviction - he almost looks like a beaten man already, which is something that Abbott never did while opposition leader. S |

S I wonder how much we could raise if there was a 50% tax on all gambling winnings including all lotteries, horse racing, casino gambling and pub pokies. |

Loads I suspect, but if you tax winnings, then you will have to give a partial refund for losses, which I suspect would probably be much, much more... S |

Why would we need to? Surely they accept the risk of losing their money. Only the winnings would be taxed, not the betting amount.
I think this is one of those fundamental things isn't it? I'm no expert, but this is why (I believe ) that Forex trading isn't taxed? Somebody correct me if I am wrong... S |

I just don't see the Labor party as is having much of a clue. Not actively destructive (like the LNP), but rudderless. In large part I think that's because politics tends to get infested with lawyers, economists, accountants and pol sci majors - who are all about the 'tactical redefinition of reality' (lying) not actually DOING anything useful. Practically, forget ideology, we need choices between people who actually have a connection with reality and a passable idea of a plan to DO something. |
