Re: Share the pain
I'm convinced that the biggest battlers are the Brits...
Btw...I would gladly pay more tax...old fashioned Liberal that I am... |
Re: Share the pain
Going by all the whining on this thread, one can be forgiven for thinking that.

Re: Share the pain
I also have no problem with paying more if it is to clear down debt

Re: Share the pain
Battler Expats has always been a source of mirth for me.
It's just politics..even I am cynical enough to know its all a rum game...Abbott gets it...Cameron gets it... We see levels of voter cynicism perhaps unmatched...or do we? Is it just the twitter verse? Remember children ; go download your latest dvd boxset of choice, watch it and be a good citizen! Don't worry your little heads... The comforts of your existence will still be there in the morning..I pledge a 10 dollar woolies voucher for every poster who Pms me...to spend on little things... |

Trickle down economics? Really? That was discredited in the 80s. Besides the poor theoretical basis, your argument also has two major problems :
Given your other answers, I thought that might be your answer. In short, "keep a lid on it" so the rich can make out like gangbusters - the american nightmare. Lots of problems with that viewpoint (besides being anti democratic), not the least of which is - it doesn't work. It's not sustainable, particularly in an age of limited growth. And it doesn't end well. |

Kev because the bogan feels good. And last but certainly not least Gerry Harvey - it keeps him in that nice Sydney Harbour waterfront a while longer the dumbass figures out a better way to attract those who actually have money into his stores. It does for me. I pledge my 900 to the wife. |

It's almost as funny as someone who is so glad they left Australia but who can't quite bring themselves to leave an Australia immigrant forum  |

It's Tabloid tv for the battlers; Jad targeted at you. leave it alone...the biggest in world class are the Uk and Aussie battlers... everyone else ignores it. You might not hear the world class phrase thing, or the top economy thing, ( while we have a debt tax ) . You really must get out the village more, if you mixed with a wider range of Australians you would clearly see the world class mantra, the best mantra it is pumped out, tried a school parade lately, tried a sporting event, tried a business conference, tried reading The Age, the Australian, the financial pages, listened to top economists, politicians...... As for the Debt, someone compared as low to other western countries, that's true but we don't have the workers to support it. See ya in melbourne:p neighbour. ( Nah much further in but top of a hill with views of the city and very green. ) You would like. |

Anyway, I think you've confirmed on a later post that you believe that we don't have such a bad budget problem as you're being told. Why accept lies at all? If the previous government haven't actually put us in such a bad state as the coalition are telling you, why would they tell you such lies that do no-one any good other than creating fear among the people that things need to change. So all we're going to do is allow them to take money from you to give to the rich in the form of PPL and rebates for lowering pollution. Along with taking away a mining tax. I really can't understand how anyone can back this dinosaur of a prime minister and his dinosaur government. |

You, of course, are fully aware of the benefits of keeping the economy ticking over as everyone pulls in their horns in response to a GFC. The benefits of not going into a recessionary spiral. Seems I have to say it again; national economies are NOT household budgets.

And on that, you might find that getting hold of a copy of "Capital in the Twenty-First Century" (was #1 on the New York Time Bestseller List) would explain some of the big picture driving forces, going forward. |
Re: Share the pain
The deficit tax is Tony's carbon tax moment. The only good thing about it is it's to clear down debt as apposed to Julia's main carbon tax objective which was to cling onto power. It makes sense practically to get rid of the debt but it'll also clear down his votes - at least until the debt is paid off. Far too risky in my opinion. It could be a way of making those who racked up the debt in the first place more accountable for it though. Each time the government is in deficit the tax kicks in and it has the name of the deficit creator plastered all over it. In fact we might as well just call it a Labor overspending tax now. ;)

Re: Share the pain
I think Gillard had said there wouldn't be a carbon tax but there would be a price on carbon. A contradiction in my opinion. But she didn't defend it like an idiot. She just didn't defend it. Abbot wants you to believe that a levy is not a tax as it's temporary. It's not inconsistent with his original policies, he said. He's either an idiot or believes Australians are idiots.

Seems I have to say it again; national economies are NOT household budgets. Oh, I already know the answer to that question. Remember, I'm at the 'big systems' end of things - I'm looking at how the small scale policies and assumptions work at the large scale and long timelines - which is why the idiotic policies of the coalition are so worrying. Entirely the wrong paradigm going forward.
