Hey, I'm off to Ballarat (Victoria)...looks an ok place...mixed opinions on here I see! Quite looking forward to it, though feels a little scary

Any particular reason why you chose there? It is scarey but theres plenty of people on here who can reassure you when you need it but also shows you that its possible. if you are single, you're already better off than anyone that has to haul a family over here. When do you plan on flying?

Ok thanks everyone - Sydney is a bit overwhelming at first, there's so much to do and see.. I only had about 3 days to do it in before I started work.. but I'm enjoying it...found permanent accomodation today which is nice in Drummoyne - working in CBD so it's only about a 20 min bus journey. It's hard leaving everyone back at home, but just got to think of a new start, new friends and better way of life - I have not really been out much yet, but from what I can see - it will be fun exploring...

I will look now for the next CBD drinks - it may be next thurs rather than this as i may be tied up with something in work this thurs - depending on timing.

who else is in sydney and what are your thoughts????
any good tips???
nic x

I loooooove it. Tips? Make the effort to make it work and it'll work for you. You're from manchester. Are you a blue or a red?

Looking forward to Oz Nov 17th 2008 11:14 pm

hey,

Someone pointed me in the direction of this threa! Seems I to shall be a loner once I get a visa and get out to Oz...Have a 2.5 year job, so having to leave OH behind :( Just lodged my visa application yesterday...so here's to waiting! :)

Hey welcome.

There's plenty of us leaving our other halfs behind - me included!! :( But these are things we must do to live our dreams!!!! :D

What visa are you going out on?

Hey everyone else!! Hope it's all going well for Nige, Pacey, Doc, Aqua and everyone else out there already.

Pony, not long till you go!! Bet you're getting excited now.

Me - I'm hoping to fly out boxing day!! I'm not a christmassy person really, but for my Mum's sake, I thought I should stay for xmas. Plus it gives me a bit longer to hope the visa is granted.
Need to give my notice in around the beggining of December, and need to book flights somewhen soon.
Just got to get the courage to book them without having a visa.

But I change my mind soooo damn much, I may wait until it's granted to book things.

I didn't really choose Ballarat, I guess it sort of chose me! I applied for a research job and it was based at the university of Ballarat! The job is due to start in february and I've applied for a 457 (sponsored temporary business visa). Whether it will actually come through in time is absolutely anyone's guess...ah well...fingers crossed :)

I haven't been to the beach for nearly a month, it's been warm but very grey and cloudy here.

Work is awful atm, am having so many problems getting even the tiniest things out of the company and the work is boring and completely irrelevant to my degree.... ho hum.
