Re: The Official Loners Thread
and on other, shittier news... I'm bored and lonely... the people at work are nice at work but have firmly resisted all efforts at socialising with me so far. I chatted for ages while on a course this week with a guy my age about music and motorbikes and stuff yet when I suggested meeting up outside of work so he could show me where the good pubs are and the women go he was like "aaah, no". Prick.
Time to join a gym to keep myself busy I reckon. |

Time to join a gym to keep myself busy I reckon. I am not an extrovert and don't go out of my way to talk to strangers or people I don't know too well. I got bored once when I first moved where I am now (from another state in Australia) and made a proactive effort (which I have never done before) in asking a person at work out in the hope of making a new friend. I went out with her and her friends (she suggested I join them) for dinner but I was fairly quiet as I'm not a group person. I never heard from that person again although we still work at the same place in different department nor did I make any additional attempt to organise another outing with her...I did not enjoy that group dinner too much as its not a very good way to know a person other than general chit chat. I think I am fine by myself at the moment until I meet people I really click with. I go to the gym too  Good thing to do for some entertainment :D |

Are you in a town or a main capital city? My guess is they all have their social groups and are comfortable with that, so making a new friend isn't really on their list of priority.

A couple of people at work have been like"go talk to the young lads at work, they're all cool" yet as my experience shows they aint! I'm not too outgoing either, if I'm introduced to someone I can be as loud and chatty as the next guy but I would NEVER just go up to someone and introduce myself. I even find that in shops when the staff try and start a conversation with me I just mumble a reply and walk off... god knows why! I'm really friendly and incredibly easy going about who i talk to but can't initiate conversation to save my life :( |

I'm really friendly and incredibly easy going about who i talk to but can't initiate conversation to save my life :( Struggled last time I was in Oz with how friendly the staff in shops were. Don't get me wrong, it was great, long may it continue but I just messed up with my response every time and walked out of shop embarrassed:o. I am extremely chatty with people I know, it's just that initial thing that's hard to deal with, I know exactly what you mean. I think it will get better for you, it just takes a bit more time for people like us to get to know people. |

BTW, this thread is mega, thanks Ponyrama for pointing it out to me, thought for a while that I was the only 'singleton' over on the immigration section.
Lots of talk of partners, kids etc happening everywhere else! |
