I'm in Newcastle... 6th largest city! 300,00 people!
A couple of people at work have been like"go talk to the young lads at work, they're all cool" yet as my experience shows they aint! I'm not too outgoing either, if I'm introduced to someone I can be as loud and chatty as the next guy but I would NEVER just go up to someone and introduce myself. I even find that in shops when the staff try and start a conversation with me I just mumble a reply and walk off... god knows why! I'm really friendly and incredibly easy going about who i talk to but can't initiate conversation to save my life :( If in the future you've got no weekend plans, you could always go stay at the Newcastle YHA and meet some random backpackers for a bit of fun and to get into the mood of meeting people. Last weekend I went to Bondi YHA and had a right laugh, just walked in with plans to hit the beach and hit the town, with some beers under my arm, and sat with the likeliest looking party people! Take it from there mate - at least have a fun weekend to look back on. http://www.hostelworld.com/availabil...ewcastle-16564 even looks like they run some crazy dune boarding/quad biking trips! anyhoo, when i do finally get a job i'll be up for a visit so you've always got that to look forward to! haha plus i met some nice newcastle girls out on a hen night the other day, so maybe we can hook up with them too. I mean hook up in the "meet them" way, but i'm sure there's some potential for double teaming if my choice of words brought that to mind. LOL ;) |
Re: The Official Loners Thread
So I'll be moving to Melbourne myself early Feb next year & although it's a big change, at least I will have family support when I arrive - which is part of the reason why I've decided to relocate & give it a try. Have only ever visited Melbourne once ..... wasn't knocked out by it - but hoping it grows on me when I'm settled in! I won't know many people there & will have to job, flat hunt etc but was wondering if anyone has tried the australian meetup site to kick start their social lives in Oz?
http://www.meetup.com/cities/au/melb...s/?radius=25.0 The website is very well utilised in London & I've met loads of great people / joined interesting groups through it - but obviously the population is far greater & diverse in this city alone....... just wondered if anyone has tried it out yet whilst in Oz & what their experience has been? |

Calling all loners...
I had my medical done on 2 Oct 2008 (as a loner) and I havent received my medical results back nor a tracking number so I can only assume they havent been sent off by the doctor yet. Can anyone remember how long they had to wait from initial medical to hearing something about results or that they had been posted? I dont want to call the doctor and complain/grumble/groan if the standard is a month wait!! I'm getting really impatient which isnt a good attribute to have but....:curse: |

Not sure how long it takes to appear on the system, haven't checked yet. |
