Also had the secrecy thing going for awhile myself, took me a couple months to tell some family members about my plans, but now pretty much everyone knows, as do most of my friends. I was the same at work, my manager had to know as I needed him to write my reference letter, but he's pretty cool though, so it was no problem.

Hey torcraw,
nice to "meet" you again!
I see you are going on a 175(MODL) as well. May I ask what profession? And where to?

Yeah, keeping my plans quiet until I have a visa. Some won't be happy, I fear. But my boss was awesome - He is jealous. His sister is in NZ. :D
The family is actually fine with it - which shocked me! ;)

I'm in IT Security Management/Policy. Planning for Melbourne, I really liked it when I was there previously, lots of stuff always going on, and the job market in Melbourne looks like there will be some good opportunities.

I haven't been to Perth... I heard it's a great place, one of my friends here went to university in Perth, but I'm not sure if I could get used to being so far from everywhere, and the city is a lot smaller than either Toronto or Melbourne.

I had a similar scenario... totally avoided telling my father for the longest time, he was the last person I told in my immediate family about my Aussie plans, and he was totally fine with it! Was pretty shocked myself

Please let us(me) know how your application progresses. Seems your application is the same as mine (Toronto, IT, 175MODL, one person,...), only you lodged before me. It will interesting for me to see when stuff happens for you ;)

I'm definitely starting in Perth. Went there last Christmas - needless to say I loved it. Have some friends in WA, so I hope that will make the move easier. But if I can't find a job I might go East.
Never been to Melbourne... yet!

I can perfectly understand Steve. Family and friends know I want to do OZ but workmates don't. Had to brief my mates so they didn't raise the "Hows the visa going?" in front of some workmates on a night out!

If everything in life is wonderful, I'll be getting made redundant early next year giving me a rather nice tax free present to take to OZ as I hope I'll have my visa in April. Sods law, I'll get made redundant to early or they lay other people off instead :curse:. That would be annoying.

How much stuff are you all planning on bringing over. Specifically 457ers.

Hi Steve,

Im planning on taking 4 -5 suitcases with BA @ £60 per case (paying for 4).

The great thing is, if I don't take 5 BA will refund !.

Cheers

Neil
