It can be a good thing but after a while has you wondering whats so great about it.

I liked the "Buy Australian" slogans that I witnessed over there in the late 90's.

This skit was deeply offensive and very insensitive. I think most Aussies need to educate themselves about the context of "Blackface" from a historical perspective.

Thanks for posting that. I can see now how it offended some. The "Jackson Jive" performers must be horrified that their innocent (and as it turns out, naive) fun resulted in loud "racist!" cries. Poor blokes.

Seems the pc brigade has gone over the top once again. I'm sure it wasn't funny - not much on Ozzie TV is. I just can't see what the problem is. If you are making a film about Ghandi you wouldn't have a Chinese face; if a production company in Namibia is making a documentary about The Royal Family they wouldn't have a black man playing Prince Charles. They would have a black man with his face whitened. Would we all shout "racist" at that?!

Not only is Hey Hey a completely crap show, with crap hosts and crap acts, it shows how absolutely desperate the channel is to boost ratings and if ressurrecting a shit show is the best they can come up with, they're stuffed.

Why it was offensive was partially that the wigs used were an exaggerated afro wig. Might as well have spoken in heavy black accents and trout pouted their lips too. It wasn't a respectful impersonation... it was crap.
The dancing was crap. The timing was crap. The moves were crap. The idea was crap. It was totally unfunny.

It looked like some desperate attempt to pull something funny together by a group of doctors (and we all know how funny they can be!) who thought they were performing at their all male university fun week, not on national tv.

All in all it was the crappest tv scraped from the bottom of the crap barrel.

If they'd blacked up and done it properly without white skin showing, without the stupid wigs, done a decent job of the dancing and it had been good... I wonder whether there would have been such a fuss?

But it was a clumsy, derogatory piss take out of a famous black american family and it was crap. There was no humour in it because it was crap.

Total and utter CRAP with a capital C.

Love it! Perfectly acceptable for people to do a racist "blackface" routine on national telly but getting offered the "wrong" water on a Qantas flight is an International incident. Couldn't make up this stuff.....

The one thing I've noticed with this dust up is that australians are spending a great deal of energy trying to explain it away. Not to the world but to themselves. It's as if they need to justify it to themselves somehow. I can't say I've heard many actually say it was wrong full stop, there's always a but. I've heard the deflections by the media to smear Harry C. and say that australia doesn't have the same racist history as the US. (WHAT! Well they're right to a point. Hell they only stopped actively hunting aboriginals a hundred years ago and only decided to classify them as human in 1967...) This isn't america so don't push your crap on us! (Hello! stopping derogatory and racist attacks is something that any civilized nation would at least attempt to acknowledge and try to put into action regardless as to where the message originated...).

To me it demonstrates one of the things that I hate about this place - they are socially and culturally retarded and proud of it.
