Just saying, I think the Scots may be more offended if they knew just how little they were thought of. I visisted Scotland as a teenager and it seemed like ten minutes down the road. I didnt realise we were worlds apart but I do live in a bubble so I cant speak for England.

It does seem like we fit the roles we feel good in. Scots LOVE to whinge about the English. The English just like whinging in general though///

IMO, The only adjustment that needs to be made is such TV programmes should pre-warn people with "Warning, this programme contains material which may offend". Similar to the "harsh language" warning which we often see/hear.
And we should all try harder to not register offence if it's unintended - in the same context as everyone accepts Irish, women, men and other jokes.

Wow - that is a big statement.
Know any Australians who have views like the BNP? Know their history and all the political firsts they came up with?
Know many Australians???
They really tend to write off people who talk in stereotypes.
Im curious - Do they listen politely to your clever witticisms and then you never seem to see them again?
You might be falling fowl of a truly vicious Australian racism - they categorise people as #@&%'s and non-#@&%'s and race, money, class etc doesnt seem to have much to do with it.

The "Paki" thing is an example. In Britain this is clearly racist, here, not.
It's all about how words are meant and this is down to interpretation. You can label anyone a racist if you try hard enough. Also, the word racism has changed in meaning over time. It is overused and hackneyed in some ways.
How POM can be construed as racist is a good example.

I think most countries will have their BNP equivalents. Racism, homophobia etc is not exclusive to the UK, nor would I imagine, is the UK the best at it.

I've never quite understood that. Other countries hoist their national flag in their gardens, the kids sing their anthem at school there are bank holidays dedicated to national pride but the UK has none of that. The general public don't even celebrate the queen's birthday. The silver jubilee was a rare exception where a sense of being proudly British was everywhere, what a year that was!
