How is it semantical for me to point out that you failed to provide a citation where I state that 'anything goes' in regards to Aussie humour?

What you did say amounted to the same thing, hence semantics.

Apologies, haven't read all the previous posts so may be reiterating what's been mentioned already, but the sketch makes those who performed it look pigshit ignorant, and those who condone it . . . err . . . pigshit ignorant . . .

I really dont see what is so shocking about 'blacking up'. The whole skit was meant to be in good fun. If you want to spend the rest of your days in a perpetual state of shock and offence then youre on the wrong side of the world. I did think it was cringeworthy moment but its hardly the stuff of a white-superiority complex.

I agree. Whilst I thought it was crap, completely unfunny and possibly racist it didn't offend me personally and until something does I am not going to play the white (and more importantly in this thread anyway) English superiority card.

No its just denigrating people because of their skin colour, nothing to lose sleep over, huh. It was clearly in poor taste and offensive, a lynching used to be considered to be good fun back in the day and I'm sure there were people then who blah, blahed on about being on the wrong side of the world to people who objected to it but times changed and people who supported things like that are now considered to be racist assholes....

I certainly wont be losing sleep over it, thats for sure. I dont see how anyone could. Putting on black face paint to imitate the Jackson 5 is a far cry from hanging blacks by the neck from the nearest tree. Keep it in perspective - Daryl Somers apologised for it at the end of the show.
