I don't care if you speed or not, You just need to be prepared to face the consequences of what happens when things go wrong.

Nobody is condoning reckless speeding. We'd all be devastated if we killed a child. What we're talking about is the police lying in wait at strategic points to raise revenue. People can rightly be pissed off about that when the coppers never seem to be around to catch reckless boy racers/ hoons. Of course if you get caught going slightly over as we all do from time to time - you say ok and pay up. Still ok to have a moan if you are not some idiot hoon who openly flouts the limit. All of you who have condemned Meelie - can you honestly say you have never crept up over the limit? I doubt it. |

Re: Got my first speeding ticket!!! (moaning thread)
Rachel was just driving down the road where she got the ticket again there were cars behind up her arse, one normal two police.
This time she was determined not to let them hurry her as thisis how she got the last ticket when all three put their foot down and pass her and then speed off. |

Maybe, but who the hell is she?
There you go. Don't know why you wanting to shoot all the speed police makes you like her though. |

I'd have to agree with you.. apart from the bit about it all being to raise revenue... Even Clarkson on Top Gear admitted that wasn't the case when he reckoned that Simon Cowell pays more Income Tax than the speed cameras make in a year... :) And there's a whole lot more cameras in the UK than out here...
Other posters comment about being told the child is never at fault by the police is also ridiculous from a drivers point of view, we can't telepathically tell that child no don't cross the road if we are in the car. It's never nice a child getting hurt but the fact that all the other children didn't cross the road should have given that child a clue, think it was unfair of police to lay all the blame on the driver negligence cuts both ways. |

Depends where you were in UK, it sometimes seems here they are behind every hedge, bridge support or just over top of a hill in UK they were fixed cameras in our area whereas here they are 4 x 4s or men strangely disguised as telegraph poles. Must say like here they never seemed to be in the true accident black spots.

If you are referring to my post, it was not the police who informed me but MY solicitor! Apparently, drivers should take extra care when there are children nearby. This particular child had been given a job by his teacher for that morning and was in a hurry to get to school. Children are unpredictable and lack concentration. How many kids have been knocked over near their schools? Quite a few i think. Surely then it is our responsibility to maintain child safety as responsable adults?
