I think maybe its only the majority of the australians attitude ( note correct spelling) and quality of driving that can be thanked for the road toll. And we all know what male drivers are like, hence the higher insurance fees for them!

I will be sexist today as how many boy racers ARE boys/men and not girls/women?? Why do we never hear of girl racers? At the traffic lights its always boys and their cars revving like maniacs isnt it. Always men yelling from lorries if you are apparantly going too slow (just trying to keep to limit:D )Yes you might get dizzy female drivers i do not deny at all but IT IS MAINLY MEN who like to drag race and cut you up just to get 1 car space in front!

It is not a case of anyone showing their true colours (if it was Fat Bloke then we have certainly learned what yours are) it is merely a case of debate. This is not and never will be brought to an end as it is impossible when you have a box over your ears and cant see or hear anything different. Have you not noticed how some people hear others points but you never do! You never actually say "well yes i can see where you are coming from but i disagree". Thats fine at least you would have a little empathy but as long as you dont then people will always attack your comments.
I can see how people like you will still say the law is the law however once again WHY DOES THE LAW LET YOU APPEAL IF THERE ARE NO GREY AREAS? Please answer that question before going on with your high and mighty attitude. I may respect your views more if you can answer that question properly. Thankyou btw i am not a law breaker as such but do have the occasional lapse in speed. (The mornings are telling when i am the only one doing 70km and am left for dust by everyone feeling like an old granny driver! Wonder if they are just not bothered about tickets or do they just know noone ever gets clocked in these areas! )

I'd like to see the Australian drivers survive somewhere like France, where people drive much faster and surprisingly without death and destruction round every mountain bend or on the motorways.

Or Germany where there are many autobahns that have no speed limit - and yet I don't remember seeing any where near the amount of accidents I have here!!

Personally, I'd like a pair of new specs. You know the ones, they make every 60K sign look like 80, every 80k like 100.
Sometimes seems like I'm the only person on the road not wearing them............

I know what you mean mate, these drongos driving like Nigel Mansell around suburban streets, and what is this with all the burn out and doughnut marks on the roads.

Kids driving high powered V8's is bad enough but to see some of the feral adults speeding is just too much.

Enough is enough.

Well, I think I should be sexist for a moment and say that many of the crappiest drivers I have ever seen are women.

Of course thats just my view point :p

Centurian I wasnt saying men are crap drivers as such, I was actually referring to their speed when taking off from lights and in general. You will note I actually said women drivers can be dizzy at times or did you not see that? The truth is there are crap men and women drivers. Just saying that the men are more likely to drag race from the lights!

Fat Bloke for once i agree with you and would love to see less hooning around the streets (not talking about accidently having your footdown on accellerater for a few seconds too long and going 66 in a 60 zone and then straight back to 60 when you have realized but in those 5 seconds you didnt realize the cops have blasted you with their radars and havent noticed that the rest of your 30 minute journey has gone by and youve actually been doing 58 in a 60 zone.)
Also like to say if i did cause an accident in those 5 seconds well yes i would have been speeding though unintentionally and yes it would have been my fault if i killed someone for going 6 over but believe you me i would not be proud of myself but i know i wouldnt have been a reckless driver who deserved the consequenses as if i had been doing 70 or over in a 60 zone. I think people should stop saying speeding is speeding and try and really remember and honestly say(unless you own a speed thingy to beep at you) whether or not they have gone over slightly and if anyone says thet never have then i am sorry but i just do not believe you.
Oh Fat Bloke you havent answered my question regarding the grey area. Are you a bit stuck on the reply? I shall be wondering if you may be seeing my point of view before long;)

The question was- Why would the police let you appeal against a speeding ticket if there was no grey area? If everything was black and white the police would say "well you were speeding and the law is the law" and still make you pay.

I am hoping you have a good answer to the question, if you do i will be amazed but glad you took the time to answer.

Obviously i am not a lawyer and I have never had a speeding ticket so I am just dragging this off the top of my head.......

I guess that law being the way it is there is ALWAYS an appeal no matter what the crime, murder, rape, child molestation, speeding, you always have a right to appeal.

In the case of a speeding ticket where the speed was slightly over the limit, like 68 in a 60 or something you could try and get the coppers on calibration of the gear they used or you can claim your speedo said you were doing 60. I don't know how far you would get but you could try.

You could always blame a dead guy

Now I have taken the time to answer, are you amazed?

No not really cos it was off the top of your head and no real knowledge was implied. Didnt look at your dead bloke as i know what one looks like. The answer is not very good as yes you can appeal against murder, rape etc but if you are guilty you dont get let off whereas if you have been going over by a few k's then you do get let off (due to grey areas). You imply i would not feel guilty for killing someone with speed- well this is untrue it wouldnt make me feel any less guilty even if i was going 30 in a 60 zone.I speak as one in the know as i was hit by a car going 15k UNDER the limit and it hurt!! The man who hit me got let off even though he was using his mobile phone at the time! He got let off as he was under the limit - can you believe that !! Apparantly he never speeded but did use his mobile and not paying attention to the road. Isnt the law an ass? I dont know, they let you off for going over by a tiny amount and they let you off knocking someone over when you are on your phone just because you were going UNDER the limit. Gosh wasnt he a SAINT!! Under or over you could harm someone if you are not paying attention.
Any way let this be the end as i am not reading this anymore as its been argued to the end of eternity and its the saints against sinners (ooh err) its like comparing nicking a sweet from the shop when you were 10 to Bank robbery. Theres accidental speeders and blatent hoons, Looks like Meelie and me and a few others are just downright hoons and girl racers.:p
