But as you say your son ran out despite lots of advice not to, a lot of children now aren't even taught those basics so running out is there norm all I'm saying is as well as hammering the drivers all the time why don't they put as much effort into teaching the kids road safety alongside that. If governments really wanted to cut speeding they could bring in mandatory restriction of car speeds by use of manual or electronic means the same as used to happen to UK trucks (notice trucks here can do same speed as cars) and also make cruise control mandatory on all cars to help keep at regulated speed.... like children motorists have momentary lapses in concentration as well.

Well I do agree with you on all your points. I am not having a go at anyone. Speeding just hits a nerve with me. Tis all.

Jo

PS still love you all.

Yes I'm miffed about getting caught but also miffed about the sneakiness and pettiness of the situation. But as it says in the title this is a moaning thread and I've had a good moan and feel better for it.

Since then I've learned to stick to the speed limit, I'm never really in a rush to get anywhere now, especially work.
Qld Police target speeding heavily, they do it because by far the highest number of fatalities on Qld roads involve speed related accidents. It therefore makes perfect sense to target the worst offenders.
Sure if your caught you can have a good rant about it, I did, then you can either continue to rack up sufficient points for a ban by repeatedly breaking the law or you can get up 10 mins earlier and drive a little bit slower.
The police are only doing a job, they are targeting the law breakers on the roads that statistically cause the most fatalities. We'd pan them if they didn't and we pan them when they do it's a no win situation for them in much the sam way speeding is a no win situation for motorists:ohmy:

OMG!!!!!! Now thats bad!

So if Cas has broken the speed limit, will that make you feel better or worse that you got caught breaking the law?

What does it matter??? I"m sure everyone has broken the speed limit at one time or another and either they have or haven't been caught. Luck of the draw I'd say.

Yes, children will probably always run out into the road.

But if a car travelling at 30mph hits a child, the child has an 80% chance of survival.

If the same car hits a child at 40mph, the child has only a 20% chance of survival (an 80% chance of being dead).

Sitting inside the car, there doesn't seem much difference travelling at 30mph or 40mph, but it makes quite a difference to the pedestrian or cyclist that gets hit.

I'd be well pissed off if I got caught breaking the law, especially as I try so hard not to get caught:p

Not really that bad, first one I had no excuse at all 114Klm in a 100Klm zone fair cop guv write me up.
Second was a sneaky one 3.44 PM in a school zone, I saw him from a long way off made sure I was going less than 60kph he wrote me up for 61kph in a 40 zone that by the time he'd written the ticket [3.45] wasn't in force any longer. I had issues with that one as he refused to let me see the evidence so I accused him of lying about my true speed. We traded a few quips I asked if i could get into trouble for thinking something, he said "no" so I told him I thought he was a w*n*er! Didn't do me any favours but I felt better at the time. He threw my licence back at me and it missed the window so he had to stoop down and pick it up. I said "while your down there you may as well check the tyres" He laughed and said he thought he'd done enough that day:sneaky:
Third one I was framed:curse: Written up for failing to stop despite being stationary for about 6 frames of a servo security camera! I wrote a letter explaining the situation including photos and witness statements only for them to up the fine and impose 3 points. At that time I realised that if you can be still found guilty despite IMO conclusive proof of being stationary at the time of the ALLEGED offense then there really is no justice here in QLD the whole system is corrupt so the only answer is not to try and fight it but to sail under the radar and not attract attention to yourself by breaking the law.
to date it's working, no points for nearly three yrs:thumbsup:

Mind if I hang around to watch this one?

Top question though. I'd be interested to hear any honest opinions on this one.

I'll just nip and put the micro-popcorn in and grab a few stubbies.

FWIW my nine points in quick succession really did cause me to rethink my whole attitude. I have slowed down accordingly, after all who would want to miss all the beautiful scenery all those rocks and gum trees and rocks and gum trees and ..........................

Why can't she have a moan about it?

Is it compulsary to read the thread?

I sympathise with Meelie, she just wanted to rant.
