Probably because they are in cars, but still require a better attitude to driving from so called adults.

What a load of bollocks you talk.

We're not talking about people who, blatantly take the piss. We're talking about people who have gone over by a small amount. The strict limits can cause more accidents than speeding as most people drive along staring at the speedometer rather than the road.

If you actually believe that they stand at the bottom of hills and where the limit drops for reasons of safety you're either very nieve or just not very bright.

So lets hear your ideas for a new speeding policy and tell me how you would improve the current system........

Well that's easy I'd line all the wankers with their speed guns up against a wall and shoot them:sneaky:

I can't believe some of the judgemental stuff on here!
Nobody is condoning reckless speeding. We'd all be devastated if we killed a child.
What we're talking about is the police lying in wait at strategic points to raise revenue. People can rightly be pissed off about that when the coppers never seem to be around to catch reckless boy racers/ hoons.
Of course if you get caught going slightly over as we all do from time to time - you say ok and pay up. Still ok to have a moan if you are not some idiot hoon who openly flouts the limit.
All of you who have condemned Meelie - can you honestly say you have never crept up over the limit?
I doubt it.

That's my point. I'll be driving along trying to make sure I'm not speeding by staring at the clock, the kids will be fighting in the back i may have to glance back to see what they're up to. It could be a multitude of reasonsnbut you may miss the change in speed and just after it is where they wait.

Never on a constant stretch, but yes they're just there trying to save lives, yeah right.

Is breaking the law in any form not considered reckless?

I agree that road safety is big must and lack of pavements here make it even more crucial. But if a child runs out infront of you and you're not speeding, its the child's fault and even though you will feel bad you will know you did what you could to avoid it. If you were speeding it will automatically become your fault, you will feel bad, guilty and have to live with that for the rest of your life especially if you kill them.

I am not a saint and my speedo has been known to go above the speed limit, but if that happened and I got caught I would be angry at myself not the policeman. Do the crime, pay the price.

This thread has just about exhausted itself now.

Actually, It is never the childs fault. I know because a few years ago, an 8 year old boy ran out in front of me. It was on a crossing and all the other kids were waiting at the lights and he just ran straight out. I didnt even see him. I was not speeding. I was doing 52kms/hr in a 60 zone. If I had been going over the limit, I could have killed him! He sustained a fractured pubic rami (a small bone in the pelvis) which does not really warrant any treatment and cuts and bruises. The cops were going to do me for dangerous driving and I had my fingerpints taken. I had to take legal advice and was informed that children are never liable as it is the drivers responsibility to ensure that if there are children around, you must take extra care.
I was horrified to think I had hurt this lad. It really shook me.
Speed limits are there to be adhered to. Sometimes it may seem as if they are unnecessary for that particular stretch of road but it may just remind you that when you do enter a specific area that requires a lower speed limit, you should stick to it. Hitting that little boy over was not something I would like to repeat and so what if i get home 5 minutes later than I wanted too. Does it really matter?

Lou
