That's pretty much the attitude I took away from teaching too.

I love that interview and especially that they threw Rev Ted Haggard in at the end. I saw that programme and it was fabulous.

Sometimes, the arrogant Christians are the makers of their very own downfall.

It was interesting what he said about the moderate Christians as well - I was thinking about that overnight (as well as the block puzzle thread).

I quite liked the one where he was giving a book reading and described by using the bible as a source just how bad and nasty God must be, massive ego, vengeful, spiteful. He went on with a tirade of adjectives to describe him. Now I've read a fair amount of the bible now and I conclude exactly the same. How are Christians able to read the bible and not see all the badness that god does? Page after page he is smiting or killing someone or other, whilst at the same time doing all he can to make people believe in him. I just can't see why the religious people can't see it, it's not an obscure paragraph now and then but nearly every page.

So how exactly someone like northerner think he is a loving god is beyond me, The only reason I can think is he hasn't actually read the book and just been told by his peers he's a loving god and believed it.

I've been a bit quiet the last day or so due to trying to get some work done so I was going to abandon this thread, but I'm still waiting for an answer on the loving god thing.

Don't like infant baptism? Ah, you'll get over it.

We don't pay enough and we've put you in a massive Victorian mansion with no central heating? Never mind, it's got an open fire in the hallway...

Neighbouring vicar's hung himself and you want answers?
I'm sorry ... we think he was gay... but we really don't do answers...

I saw the light a long time ago but I admire anyone who can stick with it.

My brother went a bit religous for a while then saw the light when he thought about it a bit more. The vicar used to drive around in flash car and had big house and the church was mega rich and Oh! but!!! is there not still really poor miserable mistreaten people out there? And, why hasn't that all giving Vicar and his church gave all their money to those poor wretches.

It's obvious they haven't because at the end of the day the church is a business like any other now and the pope is just the managing director. They even had the cheek to tell people stop putting coins in the collection after you've been daft enough to turn up we only want paper money now... greedy boys the lot of them...:frown::curse:

We attended a catholic funeral in the States of one of my old golfing buddies.
I could not believe the contempt shown for the bereaved: after a great show of everyone having to shake with those on either side, the priest came in ten minutes late wearing sneakers and a jumper. He proceded to change on the rostrum while conducting the "service", finally pulling on his frock over the jumper and kicking off the sneakers. The whole thing was conducted at breakneck speed giving the obvious message that it was an imposition and we should get the hell out of it ASAP.

Everyone (well, nearly everyone...) pushed high denomination greenbacks into the box helping him to run his mercedes and fund his frequent Caribbean trips. And they say the Mafia is evil....

Not only that but God demands that he be worshiped as well. Why does he need this? It seems as incongruous as Christians believing suffering is necessary. Why is this?

Have you read the pope's new rules for drivers? Were they prophesied in the bible or did the pope make them up all on his own?

Re: The first mistake in the bible!

The 10 commandments of driving

1.

You shall not kill.
2.

The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.
3.

Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.
4.

Be charitable and help your neighbour in need, especially victims of accidents.
5.

Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.
6.

Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.
7.

Support the families of accident victims.
8.

Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.
9.

On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.
10.

Feel responsible toward others.

So now you don't have any excuses:p
