No... and in fact, the bible is very clear on this, that the souls of people 'hang around' until the point Jesus comes again (Second coming as it's known) and takes them all up with them.
This is why I find it farcical at Christian funerals where they say the person is with Jesus or in heaven.
I'm sorry, they're not and they won't be until Jesus gets his act together.

Of course, there's also the school of thought that says that Jesus has come and gone.... 1914 I think.... Timely, as he could have picked up quite a few souls from the Great War....

Must say, those nuns were not the nicest people I've ever come across, even if I'd been open to their witterings, hardly good marketing on their front.

We lived next door to n ex-nun in the States: she spent years in a nunnery before seeing the light and getting the hell out of it, marrying and having children.

She says you would not believe the amount of sinful rogering that went on between the nuns and the catholic priests next door, not to mention the nun-on-nun activities.

My Aunt tried being a nun before she became a chick-vicar.

I'm sure some of them are lovely and devoted people.

That's not what the Bible says - I think perhaps this is what happened BEFORE Jesus came. It teaches that at the second coming there will be a new heaven and a new earth, but not that everyone who's died in the past is 'hanging around' waiting.

People who die do not go to heaven, do not become angels, but they wait in the ground until they are 'raised up'
Jesus talks about the 'last day' in John 6, where it's linked with the resurrection of the dead... I mean, it's so mainstream, it's slap bang at the end of the Nicene creed, which I'm sure you'd be fairly familiar with, especially if you were worshipping at an Anglican church.
The whole 'end times' 'rapture' and 'resurrection' of the dead comes directly from the Jewish faith, where it's a principle belief.

Sure, it's not called the 'second coming' in the bible, but it is called a number of other things, the principle understanding being that the dead remain here on the earth and at the point of the return of Jesus, they are 'raised up' with him where they will live in his 'house forever' ... (That's in John 14.3)

As far as I know, no-where in the bible does it say that the dead go to heaven.

Yes, the purpose being at the point where Jesus shows up, he re-unites the soul with said bodies and off they toddle to his house, where presumably they have a few beers.

If Jesus did come in 1914, and created his new world order, then in my opinion, he did a fairly lousy job of it.
