As someone who mainly revolves around red wines and good beers, I've always wondered who makes the best whiskey. Ireland, Scotland, US... or maybe even Japan? :)

Do you have a favourite brand you stick with or do you prefer to experiment/change?

With Scotland getting tied-up, blindfolded and dragged out of the EU it might make the case for Irish whiskey producers to get some high tariffs and levies in place to boost their position on the European market.

Where are Aegon,HBOS and RBS head quartered?

This report is a little old, but most of the information is still valid.

yes but why would they be negotiated away? No one will touch RBS with a barge pole - HBOS has a few problems - and I thought Aegon was head quartered in Holland.

The Irish make whiskey, the Scots make whisky. Don't let any jock know your address after that statement, your life would be over

I think the Japanese and Americans make whiskey too - oh and I even have a bottle of Welsh whiskey somewhere.

I am more concerned with the assertion that the English will trade away Scotland's financial assets, which are claimed to be 2 bankrupt banks and a Dutch finance house as I'm struggling to make any sense of that...........

Haha. I'm a simple man with simple tastes. I'm partial to anything from Macallan for my whiskies (yes, I'm using the proper nomenclature and spelling) and (slightly off topic here), enjoy a Mouton or even a good Cos d'Estournel for my reds.

Alas, I've caved into local tastes for beers after 25 years - and I can no longer tell the difference between a Tiger and a Carling, sadly.

Do some research on the amount Scotland gives to Westminster. The myth that Scotland is subsidised has been perpetuate for years, but recently it has been acknowledged that it is the other way around. If Scotland is a drain on resources why is Westminster so desperate to keep her in the Union? Westminster is far from being a philanthropic organisation.

Re: Did the UK do the right thing in voting to leave the E.U.

While the UK economy as a whole grew by 0.7% in the final quarter of last year, output in Scotland contracted by 0.2% over the same period.

Scottish Government statisticians found output was flat in the service sector, and down in the production and construction sectors by 0.9% and 0.8% respectively.

By any objective measure, these figures paint a disconcerting picture of the nation’s fiscal health. Professor Graeme Roy, director of the Fraser of Allander Institute economic think tank, described the Scottish GDP figures as “deeply disappointing,” and said they gave “serious cause for concern.” The GMB Scottish secretary, Gary Smith, described the figures must act as a “wake up call.”

I have done research on it - I live in Scotland. The only time it could be argued that Scotland gives more than receives is with oil and gas revenue counted. However, as a resources specialist, I find that pretty funny given that for a number of years, the only real money making from the North Sea is from the fields drilled in international waters and landed in Hull.

The other area being Shetland, however, that is, at current prices not making much. A number of fields within the North Sea in water that could be regarded as Scottish are currently costing the tax payer money in tax write offs.

..... and look how nice Aberdeen is, and how Hull is not.

Something is not stacking up there.
