Re: Did the UK do the right thing in voting to leave the E.U.
I'm enjoying (well not really) reading all the comments from posters who somehow don't agree with a democratic decision
All I see is a government implementing the will of the people |

The will of the people does not apply when it doesn't fit the limited, right-wing agenda. |

Sturgeon's got one agenda only, the will of many Scots is that she shuts up and gets on with running the bloody country.

The will of the people does not apply when it doesn't fit the limited, right-wing agenda. The Scots had a vote and rejected independence. If they are going to ignore that and have another vote them that's up to the Scottish and UK governments, but like Brexit, not a good idea The British people voted for Brexit. A mistake IMO but ignoring their decision would be an even bigger mistake Democracy at work - build a bridge and get over it. Then again, democracy and the left rarely go hand in hand |

Even though the Scottish gov't has already stated its will of holding another referendum in light of Brixit, the wraith at No 10 is now afraid of "the will of the people" and is single-handedly trying to block it for years... A new referendum could pave the way for Scottish independence and quick, seamless entry into the EU. The people shouldn't be held hostage by Teresa May but should be allowed their say, especially as they voted to stay in the EU and the UK gov't is forcing them out against their will. Not very democratic to stifle the voice of the Scottish people. |

The Scottish people voted to remain in the UK The British people voted to leave the EU In future, the Scots may have another vote for independence - doesn't change the fact that the British people voted for Brexit. Both bad ideas IMO but the people have decided/will decide Move on |

Then again, democracy and the left rarely go hand in hand The British people overall voted leave but Scotland and Northern Ireland didn't. This is the basis of Sturgeon's claim (which I don't support but am explaining why) for a 2nd referendum. 'Democracy' in Scotland didn't vote out of the EU so hence the calls for Indy 2 (and if leave the union; a bid for membership of the other union). Things are rarely as simple as black or white. |

Oversimplified version. 'Democracy' voted to leave the EU; 'Democracy' did not say how and when this would happen (Cameron's fault for putting a simple yes or no question and very little discussion on how Brexit would be enacted by either side). Did 'democracy' vote for a hard or soft Brexit? Did 'democracy' vote for the role of parliament in the exit procedure or not? The referendum result did not put flesh on the bones; hence the protracted court cases, when to trigger Article 50, part of or completely out of the single market etc.

The British people voted to leave the EU. End of. It is up to the government of the day to decide how they want to implement this decision. They will live or die by how they do this at the next election. That's how it works in a democracy champ A 2nd Scotch referendum is up to the governments of the UK and Scotland to decide on. The Westminster government is well within their right to deny another vote and any move by Scotland to ignore that and go for independence is a virtual UDI and the EU would take a dim view of it |
