Typical Australian standards. You throw very good wine at the socket and it all goes wrong.

If by 'very good' you mean 'cheap ass cask' then you are spot-on

Really, this is nuts, I need some kip ...

<Blinks into the daylight> SA 81 for 1 chasing 200 odd ... Hmmm, advantage them then ...

Home advantage could be crucial.

What an insane day of cricket, glad I stayed up and watched it to the end.
Some crazy stats from this test:
Lowest Aussie score in over 100 years
All 4 innings featured in 1 day - only the 2nd time this has happened
SA were 22/0, a few hours later Australia were 22/9
23 wickets

SA were going okay at 40-odd/1 and then both teams had some kind of crazy mind f**k - Brad Haddin, what were you thinking! Bowling was very good and batting was tough, but not THAT tough. After 9 down, the last 2 Aussie batsmen realised that you can actually bat on this wicket, SA are batting well in their 2nd dig. The enhanced DRS setup is great.

SA are in control, but after yesterday, who knows..........

There is an absolute classic comment by someone on the foxsports.com.au website that asks:

"what sort of cricket team has their opening batsman taking the most amount of wickets and their number 11 making the most amount of runs?"

Classic!

Guess Aussie commentators got sick of it waiting for it to happen to England so thought "what the hell" .............................................it's happened to somebody

Well played SA, Smith and Amla looked awesome today.

At the moment they seem more bewildered than anything.

From the stuff I've been reading it seems a huge over-reaction to one very dodgy innings to be honest.

If Aus repeat it in the second test then it will be interesting ...

I agree. SA just avoided the follow-on, and if they had would probably have lost by an innings and Australia would have been heroes.

I'm not a big fan of his, but I was impressed by Clarke. Not just the 151 against good bowling on a tough pitch, but more so his reaction to the defeat. Ponting would have had that 'caught in the headlights' look on his face and would have come out with every excuse in the book. Not so Clarke. He said that Australia had sucked and that their performance was unacceptable, that his 151 meant nothing and that heads are going to roll. Good stuff.

Ponting, Haddin, Johnson, Hughes really need to be worried about their places. Australia are now in a perfect position to start building for the future. It's up to them.
