What I might do is have my sister order me a years worth and mail them over. Even with shipping they'll be cheapere than buying here. |

Good idea, Deb just tried the one day jobbies as a freebie trial from Specsavers [5 pairs]. Daily lenses work out at $60 per month. A mutual friend wears the monthly ones & often forgets so they can stay in for six weeks. Deb is contemplating the monthly ones but buying from overseas as a three month supply for monthly lenses is still $100
I haven't got around to arranging contacts, as I have trouble putting them in, but I buy all of my glasses from this place: http://www.selectspecs.com They are without fail the cheapest place I have found fro them, and come inclusive of all the coatings etc. Excellent value. S |

Having recently just come back from a road trip/reccie/visiting family, one of the things that stood out most for me cost wise was the price of cars. They are double in price and in some cases more. But I believe this hasn't always been the case.....So my Aunt and Uncle tell me. Apparently, once upon a time cars were cheap.

S I'm in the market for a new pair now... and I'm expecting to pay somewhere between Aud 900 to Aud 1300 for my 'script. Less 300 insurance and 160 bucks back from the post office workers subsidy. |
Re: Aussie rips offs
LOL.... I just phoned them, so interested was I in my own question.... Cancelled my own opticians appointment for tomorrow and am going to specsavers Brunswick.
They have the capacity to save me 200 bucks on the lenses alone.... plus I get a free pair. Their price for the 1.67 lenses in multi focals as above is 530 bucks. Although they are Pentax Lenses, which I'm fairly sure isn't as good as I have now.... although the name of the manufacture I have now escapes me. I do know I had two choices last time around and was told that the ones I have are more scratch resistant than the Pentax. I'm not going to argue with 200 bucks cheaper and a free pair though. |

Ozzie - I thought you were talking about camera lenses!! I have a pair of spectacles 10 years old which I have to tighten up the screws on - then they are barely serviceable. |

So this is the jam-jar thread eh? I've just finished with being conned via my local Vietnamese chappie and now go to...Costco. About 120 coin for 3 month's supply of daily wear contacts....I refuse to wear extended wear lenses.

Already been and bought Two pairs.... final price 722 bucks with the HCF discount... still another discount from the Post Office to come. 1.74 High density multi focals with the coating and two frames supposedly worth 300 bucks each. I'm happy as I paid more than that for one pair 4 years ago. Two weeks wait... will get to see the difference between the Nikon lenses which I have now, compared to the Pentax which are coming. Was very surprised to see a young and very lovely UK manager in charge of the Brunswick store.... who actually migrated with her job... Specsavers to Specsavers. You dont get a lot of UK people in the Northern Burbs compared to other locations. So a British company has saved me 50 pct today.... I think thats a first for me. |

How can it possibly be justified?

Sorry, this is an Aussie whinge thread. I think private health care/cover is ridiculously expensive as well. And the price of a pint, and a sad, flat looking pint it is at that. Car repairs - you know that no matter what's wrong with the car it'll cost you $500 or multiples thereof to get fixed. Aussie politicians are a bit of a rip off too. Water is expensive but I kind of understand that, since we haven't got much. Any sort of tradesman call out. Typically $100 before they even walk in the door. |
