If Indians don't like the risk of being victims of crime, they can not travel to Australia or leave Australia permanently. Similarly naturalized Australians of Indian descent.
Australians of Indian descent with no right to Indian residency should drop the Indian ethnicism and consider how to improve security for all Australians not just their ethnic gang.

The alleged attacker has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and other assault-related matters.
He was released on bail.
Now this person attacked innocents with machette. They did a brave job by catching him. And what police did, released him. WOW...

Means that the courts are sure he will attend his court hearing and the police are sure they know where to find him if he does not. He has to pay for his own upkeep at least until sentencing.

No, all peace loving citizens should be safe. Laws should take "petty crimes" seriously and in order to save costs dump these criminals into dirty rooms instead pampering them in comfy jails. So that criminals fear jails not be mesmerized towards jails.

I read recently how much it costs per day to keep a young offender in custody. The costs are staggering! How exactly do you propose we pay for the upkeep? Taxes would become astonomical with less services to the general population because all the resources would be going to keep these people in prison for 10+ years..

Hmmm and within 100 years probably have one of the worlds wealthiest countries in Central Africa.
Not a bad idea.... Penal colonies seem to have a good track record so far.

I am rather interested in seeing how many such crimes were resolved. Crimes do occur everwhere, agreed! But the critical stat for the reputation of the authorities is "how much %age they resolved"

Two men believed to be employed by an Indian-born contract worker found stabbed and burnt in rural NSW have had their passports seized at Sydney Airport, Fairfax reports.
Ranjodh Singh's partially burnt body was found beside Wilga Road, Willbriggie, in the Riverina area of south-west NSW on December 29.
The 25-year-old seasonal worker had been living in Wagga Wagga and was visiting Griffith at the time of his death.
Two men, believed to be Indian seasonal workers employed by Mr Singh, were arrested at Sydney airport's departure lounge last Monday as they were about to board a flight to Nepal via Singapore, Fairfax reported.
The pair were questioned at Mascot police station but were later released without charge after being forced to hand in their passports.
Detectives believe Mr Singh may have been murdered in a fight over unpaid wages at a Christmas party two days before his murder.
A post-mortem examination revealed his throat had been slashed and he had suffered multiple stab wounds before being bound and then set alight in an effort to conceal his identity, Fairfax reported.

Some are harder to locate the 'accurate' figures.But I get the feeling that Melbourne is the highest.
I have just located Brisbane figures for 2008-09 ....
- Queensland 449 assaults per 100,000 (NOTE 100,000)
- South Eastern Region 400 assaults per 100,000
- Brisbane Central 1,820 assaults per 100,000
No wonder I like it here 
Compare to Melbourne's adjusted rates to 100,000

2,850 reported cases of robbery and assault against every 100,000 Indians
2,630 reported cases of robbery and assault against every 100,000 all nationalities
Melbourne shows robbery and assault together.
Brisbane shows robbery separate to assault.
However...

- South Eastern Region = 37 per 100,000
- QLD robbery = 21 per 100,000
