Take out one way travel insurance for valuable items like laptops, jewelry, camera's etc.
If you're like us and have a time gap between when your contents insurance expires in the UK and when you commence contents insurance in Oz there are little or no options once you arrive and are staying in a hotel or similar before you begin to rent.

when we relocate back at the end of the year, I am bringing mountains of lovely smelling washing (clothes) liquid, several boxes of cadburys and some Seabrook Prawn Cocktail crisps.
Oh and a new front loader- our other one was destroyed when our container was fumigated on arrival in UK. (along with many other electrical items)

If you have room in your container, bring as many toiletries as you can, all those special 3 for 2 offers in Asda, shower gel, bath oil, bath foam, shampoo, conditioner, hair products, all WAY cheaper in the UK than here!!!
I brought a box back with me in August and am just on the last now as I got addicted to buying a different one each time I shopped just for the sheer novelty of paying a quid for a Brit shower gel vs 3 quid for an Aussie one, etc.

I always take mine on the plane with me and give the excess away. I've never fancied the risk of shampoo running all over my furniture or though tutus and leather jackets and things. But just checked Allied's website and it looks as though you can.
Here's what they say you can't pack:
Nail polish remover
Paints and paint thinners
Lighter fluid
Gasoline
Fireworks
Oxygen bottles
Propane cylinders
Automotive repair and maintenance chemicals
Radio-pharmaceuticals
Matches
Other items not recommended for transport on the van include:
Firearms
Food in glass jars and perishable foods
Prescription drugs needed for immediate use

Nope. Just finsihed off a bit of retail therapy. Bought a book from the US @ 2/3 the price of the UK and 1/2 the price of Aus*. Also bought other items from the UK at just over 1/3 of the Aussie price* and from the US @ 1/2 price*.
