Good luck for the citizenship test Possums, I did the on the citizenship website and did ok, but I reckon most Aussies wouldn't know many of the answers, it was the sports questions that let me down!

Well, after my 2 interviews, I have decided to accept the job at the maternity unit, they have offered me the hours I wanted and it seems like a nice place to work. I've got an inductiond day on the 6th April but don't have a starting date as yet, HR have got to process my application etc.

So no more enjoying the sunshine in the garden, back to the world of work, I haven't worked since the middle of June last year, it's going to be a shock to the system, especially doing night shifts again

Sam

Great news about accepting the job Sam. I cant believe it's since last June that you stopped work - where did that time go? It probably will be hard at first - especially doing the night shifts (hope you get to sleep during the day ok!), but i imagine you'll be so busy learning bits and pieces and how the place operates compared to where you worked previously that you'll probably enjoy it!
Wouldnt it have been funny if it had been the hospital that Kezza's under? You might have been involved then in the birth of the Tassie Twins then!

Congratulations Sammy excellent news. Can sympathise with the night shifts as have been doing those with Max lol!!!! Hopefully you will get a couple of more weeks of sunshine before starting your new job.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

We used the book depository last month, really quick delivery and good prices, I still can't get over the cost of books here!! I love reading and use the library lots but its nice to have some new books occasionally.

Hi Possums, hope you feel better soon We have a lot of things going around again over here - i was off work for 3 days myself last week with similar thing - altho it's now moved down to my chest so i'm sounding like an old wheezebag today! Our lovely weather has disappeared during the last 24 hrs - it was soooo windy last night things have been blown to the bottom of the garden!
We have someone coming to look at the house this afternoon so will let you know how that goes! No guess as to what i'll be doing this morning - yep, housework!
A fox must have jumped the wall beside our house to get into our back garden yesterday and it must have landed on my chimenea and knocked it over. As it fell it had hit another big plant pot - so the top has literally broken right off the chimenea. So that's one less thing for us to ship over to Tas!

With regards to buying books on the Island - when you & Sammy T say they're really expensive - how much dearer are they? i take it the same applies for kids school books as they get older?

Glad you got to meet up with Gary & his family. It's nice when people from the thread get to meet up and put faces to the names!

Hi Possums. Hope you're feeling a bit better by the time you read this message.

The viewing went really well this afternoon. I was at work myself - but Andy said the guy & his friend stayed for about half an hour and wanted to see everything - going to the bottom of the garden etc & asked loads of questions. He said he really likes our house and wants to bring his wife with him for a 2nd viewing...(they also have a 1yr old daughter) so our house is a nice size for a young family. The guy's friend lives in Romford - whereas the buyer lives in Fulham, London & is currently renting there as he works as a nurse in London but wants to move out this way...Fingerscrossed that we'll hear back with something positive before the end of the week. We've been looking at properties in our area on rightmove.co.uk & compared to what's available for either our current asking price or slightly under our house is a bargain compared to other 3 bed semi's in the same area - so hopefully this will be realised and we'll not get a silly offer again!

I'm really shocked about the price of a paperback book over there then! That's extortionate!

Good news on the viewing Cathy

Will keep all my fingers and toes crossed for you xx

PS The books are so expensive, it's one of those things that make no sense, just like the price of tinned tomatoes

Thanks Sam

I'm too scared to ask how much you have to pay for tinned tomatoes then! I pay 33p a tin in Tesco's so im guessing it's somewhat more! Actually, when i was doing my shopping last week i did think we are very lucky with some of the prices for our food. Even though we moan about the overall cost still i know there's so many things that we will have to get used to paying a lot more money for when we get to Oz. With a bit of luck i just wont eat so much so it might do me a favour in some ways!

Was lovely to meet you both Possums and thank Colin for coming down and picking me up to get the bike. Really appricate it, I have been off last couple of days with the bug feeling a bit better now.
Hope to meet up again soon.
As for cost of tinned toms they are around $1.80 for a large can of own brand. We are off shopping later once we have been we will scan the bill for you to see what the cost is.

sounds really positive fingers and toes are well and truly crossed

Vicky said something about how we dont pay tax on books in the UK where as we do here so that makes a difference. of course love em or hate em places like Tescos can afford to sell so cheap and well thats what we are used to arent we.

Hey Cathy great news on the viewer! Good luck with that. What a shame about your chimnea, we had one back in Mk, but I gave it to my dad, I really wish we had bought it out with us though, it was lovely on a chilly evening sitting by the chimnea with a glass of wine. Tea bag has one and we often sit by it of an evening under the stars, lovely.

Possoms I now know what you mean about learning all the stuff for the citizenship, I sent off for the book and it came today. OMG!! is all I have to say on that subject! I'm sure Duncan will be fine though, he is very knowledgeable about all kinds of history and such like. But me on the other hand, well who knows!
Thanks for the link on the book store, that's great, I'm sure Duncan will be ordering some books from there. I've just borrowed a book on bringing up twins, I need all the help I can get! lol

Glad you had a good time at Bridport Gary and family, we'll have to get our butts up there one day and check it out for ourselves.

And as for germs, well you can keep them up there thank you very much!!
Seriously though I hope you are all on the mend, there is nothing worse than being kept awake by a stinking cough and cold. Well maybe being kept awake by two bubs using your insides as a boxing gym!

Hi Kerry

How are you, I hope you have not been climbing any more fences!!

When are you applying for citizenship, I thought you had to be here for 4 years now since the rules changed a couple of years ago? I only ask because our next door neighbour's son wants to join the army (they are British) and they thought he could join this year after they apply for citizenship, however it turns out that even though they have been in Oz for more than 2 years they only got their PR after July 2007 so they have to wait the full 4 years, the poor lad was gutted and has returned to Qld on his own (they moved here from Brisbane) as he just can't get work here.

We were lucky and got ours in May 07 so just scraped through you had to have a PR visa before June 07 to still qualify for the 2 year living in Aus. That's a big shame about your friends son though, I bet he was gutted.

I'm ok thanks Sam, my back aches loads and my legs are feeling the extra weight, and I have terrible reflux, but apart from that I am really well.
Duncan had to go to a funeral today one of his workmates brother got killed in a road accident at the styx he had a collision with a log truck and died instantly. It was in the paper last week you may have read about it. Its a terrible tragedy, the poor bloke was on his way home and looking forward to a week off fishing.
