yeah, I am a ring-in - Aussie Girl, Born Brisbane, then Perth now Tassie.
Came on this forum as we considered going to live in England but this lot scared me off so we ended up in Tassie instead! So I've set myself up as the Aussie Welcoming Committee

Good choice - I reckon Englands going down hill fast ( if you know what I mean!) We went to Perth for our honeymoon back in 1996, as we where thinking about emigrating then, and we did apply, but I fell pregnant, and decided to stay in England, but Aus kept calling us, and here we are again ! I really liked Perth, but I could'nt bear the heat, so thats why we've chosen Tas.

I was just about to post a similar thing, not too good down there at present is it in places. I know when i was there in September they were forecasting a similar fire season to 1967, which is a terrifying thought. Hope you all stay safe and that the weather makes a turn for the better soon.....

Hi guys
Have been following the news re bush fires, sounds pretty scary, one road affected - Tara Rd Acton Park area- very near where we saw some lovely properties for sale. Maybe we won't be living that way now!
Hope no one has been affected by this and that they are all under control soon.
Found this website useful, I imagine those living in the areas at risk have better info though.

My first experience of bushfires was in Tassie, I used to live (briefly!) in the Glebe in Hobart, looking across to the Mountain. I remember seeing fires moving across the lower slopes, so close to the houses that it would have been terrifying living there. The guy I was with said he used to live in one of those houses and on at least two occasions he had stoof in the back garden with a hose keeping the fire away from the fence. Very scary to watch the speed of the fires, esp when you can see the flames leaping among the smoke.
For anyone moving down to Tassie (or anyone in a bushfire area come to that) - make sure you have a fire plan worked out as soon as you move in, and then stick to it. Local fire services will help you work out what is best for your family and your property, and there is info on the websites of the fire services in every State.
