Good lord Cathy you should start a blog!!!
I am afraid the handbag situation happens here too. I took Teabags girls to the open air swim pool during the summer hols, when a big gust of wind came and scared shit out of everyone, so I grabbed the kids out of the pool and got our belongings to go get changed, when we realised that one of the girls bags was missing. At first I thought it had been blown away, but upon further investigating and searching it was found in the male changing rooms minus her pocket money
The horrible thing is I actually know who took it, as the kids were swimming I was keeping an eye on our stuff, and there was a dodgey looking bloke sitting near our bags, I was watching him the whole time, he must have struck when I was getting the kids out the pool. He had the cheek to lay down and sunbathe albeit rather nervously after he saw me pointing at him. But because we didn't have any proof it was him, we couldn't do anything about it. Poor Lauren was in tears over the whole thing, I felt terrible. So there are arseholes here too I'm afraid, its not restricted to good ole blighty, there just aren't as many

I know what Andy would have done - he'd have "accidentally" tripped over the guy or shouted out "there's some thieving gits about" really loudly to make sure that he knew we knew if it had been us!!!!
It's a shame there are dishonest people all over the world....
Good job there's some of us nice ones about to keep the balance

No I am a Lancashire Man taken prisoner by a Yorkshire Lass and forced to spend 23 years imprisoned the wrong side of the Pennines
Fortunately for me I was priviledged to spend 39 years in my native Lancashire first!
You can tell a Lancashire Man he can't spell Echy right
Are you from Yorkshire?
Cheers Oldgit

We've been out for the day today - went for a drive and took the kids to the Isle of Sheppey in Kent - about 1hr20mins drive from where we live here in Romford.... We went to a place called Leysdown and also Sheerness - both of which i haven't been to for years... As one of my friends at work would say both places were pretty "chav tastic" with some of the people there (England tops / loads of foul language / loads of tattoo's (not that i dislike tattoo's - far from it - seeing as both me and Andy have them ourselves) - but i'm sure you've heard the expression "chav" before now to know what i'm talking about! It's a shame as there's a lovely park bit by the sea-front at Sheerness and loads of teenagers had bought those disposable BBQ's and were eating food etc on the grass - which was nice to see - until about an hour later we walked past again - and they'd buggered off and left all their rubbish and the empty foil BBQ's on the ground

That's one thing we liked when in Oz - the fact that people seem to have a little bit more respect for public area's...
Was nice to be by the water though - although really hot today - it was still quite chilly walking along the front. The kids collected a few shells/stones....
Just a few hours walking about in the fresh air today and we've all come home knackered!!! I imagine i'm going to sleep very well when we're finally in Tas and spending more time walking around the beaches etc...

Anyway, back to work tomorrow...
take care all!

Hi
You're welcome the pics give you something to see picture worth a thousand words and all that.
When you come to Tassie there will be something just right for you when you are ready for it.And yes a local school within walking distance would be good.
I trot out the odd mea culpa from time to time along with ecky thump and puffin muffins
Cheers Oldgit

I do like CSI - it is one of my favourite programmes - i like CSI Vegas and New York above Miami (although old Horatio is good to watch) - but....i dont think i'd want to watch it on TV every night

I tend to prefer US TV - at the moment the only things i make a point of watching during the week are Heroes, Desperate Housewives, CSI and Law&Order and i liked Lost and loved PrisonBreak when they were on...
other than that i'm used to coming home from work and watching whatever Andy already has on - which could be football, TopGear or a DIY/renovation style programme like Grand Designs or Property Ladder or something like that!!!! At least i wont miss any soaps as i dont watch them now anyway....

Do you know many expats around where you live? If so, what kind of area's are they from - i notice that Gary has said there's quite a few people from Lancashire where he is...
(just curious as to whether they'd be any fellow essex people about
)

My older brother is married to a Yorkshire Lass too. She was from Harrogate and they have lived in York since my brother left the army a few years back...... Cant say i've ever heard of the expression Puffin Muffins - not quite like the ones we use here in Essex!

I like the way they light up The Stray at Christmas.Moved to York ... did they have to get a Visa to leave HarrogateNo I hadn't heard the expression Puffin Muffins until I came to Oz.
I don't use it in adult society but where kids are about or in the case of an open forum like this one I use it sparingly and like it as it seems a million miles away from the F - word which was beginning to feature too often in my everyday language.I am no prude but I feel I can and want to express myself
in a manner more befitting my new found youth

You all sound to have had a good day out.No i am rather behind the times when it comes to "Chav".What does it mean please?
Know what you mean about the litter. That is my experience too that Australians do seem to have more respect for public areas
Yes Tassie has some lovely beaches well worth getting knackered for.
Back to work

I dont remember seeing the lights at Christmas time - even though my brother got married in December as well - but we stayed in Knaresborough - next to the famous Mother Shiptons Well.So you've never heard of the expression "Chav" - well it's not very flattering.
For want of trying to explain myself - i thought i'd paste part of the Wikipedia definition....
"are mainly derogatory slang terms in the United Kingdom for a stereotype fixated on low quality or counterfeit goods. It commonly refers to those belonging to a youth sub-culture, often stereotypically associated with a low socio-economic class, a striking dress sense and criminal activity.
The term appeared in mainstream dictionaries in 2005.[1][2] There are regional variations; in the North East of England the variant charv / charva is most commonly used (particularly in Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland areas, where the term originated.) and has been used since the early 1990s, while in the South East of England and South West of England chav is the usual form. The term differs depending on area and dialect; in Scotland, they are known as "neds".
Response to the term has ranged from amusement to criticism that it is a new manifestation of classism.[3] The term has also been associated with juvenile delinquency, the "ASBO Generation", "Hoodie culture", and "Yob culture"."
Hopefully that sums it up for you!!!
